We purchased a 2022 Outback which didn't have 0% financing (the 2021 does). We expected 0% financing but didn't find out that wasn't available on the 2022 until we were in discussions with the finan financing (the 2021 does). We expected 0% financing but didn't find out that wasn't available on the 2022 until we were in discussions with the finance manager. (I should add we didn't do our homework since the 0% financing was only applicable for the 2021 Outback; apparent in the fine print in the ad.) The sales person had discussed with us the 0% financing agreeing that it made sense to finance and to use our money elsewhere. We ultimately signed for the car with a 1.9% loan. We felt like it was a bit of a bait and switch but it probably wasn't (we hope). We chose to believe the salesperson didn't pay attention and made an honest mistake during our negotiations. The other factor that we found somewhat uncomfortable was the hard sale for extended warranty made by the finance manager. He stated that the Outback has extensive electronics that aren't repairable. He stated they have electronic modules that must be replaced if they fail which can cost a lot. He insinuated that such a failure was all but inevitable. (I believe this was a little disingenuous. I am an aviation professional who has relied on advanced electronics for years and our other two cars are newer vehicles with modern electronics. My overall experience has been excellent.) This push for us to spend an additional $2,000 was somewhat irritating. My feeling is that Subaru builds a good and reliable product and I doubt that Subaru would put unreliable electronics in their cars. Failures happen, and they happen more often as a car ages but it is generally acknowledged that extended warranties are a bad deal (Consumer Reports etc). Overall, this was a typical new car purchase experience. Errors by the sales person, hard sale for additional features, and generally not a great experience. We usually replace our cars at about 100,000 miles so (thankfully) buying a new car is not a common experience for us. Next time, I think we will do the whole thing on line which will remove some of the pressures associated with the process. Certainly, doing that should reduce the impact of the “new car smell” on our on our (normally good) judgment and intelligence. In retrospect we should have walked away and rethought the process. More

Susan Coolen and Billy Sadtler never missed a beat. I was able to see the car I liked and take all the time I needed to have my questions answered. Less than two days later, I drove away in my new Outback. More
