I brought in my car a 2017 Highlander for service and state inspection in October 2022. When 1st got my vehicle, I was told that as long as I own the vehicle, I will have complimentary state inspection for the life of the vehicle. I pointed this out to the service attendant, but he told me there was nothing written so notwithstanding my objection had to pay. This was my 1st disappointment. After waiting 2 hours the service attendant called me and stated that the vehicle had failed inspection for safety reasons, and I had to pay in the vicinity of $680 to change the brake linings and rotor in order to get the sticker. I declined and thought I would get a 2nd opinion since my car only had 22000 miles on it. The attendant told me there were sediments gathering between the lining and the rotor. About an hour later I was told that my car was ready, and the car had passed the state inspection. I was a little confused as to how I could fail inspection and pass within an hour on a safety issue with no corrective action. I felt that the dealer tried to upsell me for parts and services that were not immediately necessary and had no bearing on the passing or failing of the state inspection. If it is that the issue of safety was that serious, then Advantage Toyota put me and my family at risk. How I was able to pass the inspection is another mystery. In conclusion, I am disappointed that I waited for 3 hours for a simple service and inspection, that I had to pay for the state inspection that I was told would be complimentary and finally to be deceived into paying for parts and service that were not necessary.
