Mark & Rhonda, Thank you for leasing your 2015 Sportwagen with us. On behalf of the entire staff, I hope you’ve enjoyed driving it, and I appreciate you coming to us when it came time to purchase the vehicle at lease end. Thanks also for taking the time to share your frustration with the standard lease end purchase process. I’ve reviewed the notes on your recent visit, and I wanted to reply to you personally, so you were aware that what you were told by my Steve Skinner from my sales staff is completely accurate, and has been our standard practice for as long as I’ve been in this position. Keep in mind that neither the customer, nor the dealership is actually the “owner” of the leased vehicle when it comes time to purchase it at lease end, so for the dealership to be involved in the process, we actually must execute two separate, simultaneous transactions. We must purchase the leased vehicle from VW Credit first, then we turn around and sell it to you in one fell swoop. In doing so, we then become the selling dealer, and we have the same responsibilities in selling you that used car as we would if we had acquired it at an auction, or as a trade in from another customer. The # 1 item we offer to our customers is to have their vehicle certified, and the overwhelming majority of our customers like us transforming their car into a VW Factory Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. What does that mean? It means you get: • A 112 point inspection of the vehicle to ensure it meets VW’s rigid Certified Pre-Owned Inspection requirements. • Checking engine performance for starting issues, knocking, and vibration • Checking transmission for performance malfunction or noise • Testing brakes for proper function, stopping distance, and vibration • Steering tests for noise, effort, vibration, and pulling • Recommended or required maintenance updates • Any work required and completed will improve your car’s appearance, performance and make it as near-to-new as possible. • 2 year, 24,000 mile Comprehensive Limited Warranty. The warranty period begins when the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires or on the date we sell your car, whichever occurs later. • Two years of 24-hour Roadside Assistance included on your Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, assistance can be ready to help you out of those less-than-ideal situations. The program includes: • Towing to the nearest licensed authorized VW dealership • Flat-tire changes • Jump starts • Emergency fuel delivery • Winching/extrication • Emergency door unlocking • Emergency repairs • Availability 365 days a year, 24 hours a day • This is a tremendous value especially knowing that the best years of your car’s life have already happened and as every car ages there is a higher probability of it needing some future TLC. • A complete detail of your vehicle. Our detail team will completely clean the inside and outside of your vehicle and when you get it back it will be a complete remake of your vehicle. • We handle all the paperwork and make all the arrangements with the DMV, pay the taxes and provide you with a worry-free experience. It is no small task to do this especially for someone not used to dealing with the bureaucracy of the DMV and all the requirements. • Lower rates are offered by Volkswagen when we sell a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. The savings in financing cost, depending on the total amount financed and price of the car, can sometimes be as much if not more than the cost you pay for the Certification. • We top off your tank of fuel, nothing like leaving the store with a full tank of fuel! • Three month trial of SiriusXM on equipped vehicles, plus access online and on the app. • All of this comes at a great value – of $1,499. Not all customers choose to certify their vehicle, and when you made Steve Skinner aware that you were not interested in certifying the car he should have offered you the option of purchasing it through the store as a non CPO car. During this process we perform the following for you. We perform safety inspection for every car we sell. We also check for any outstanding recall campaigns and make sure your vehicle has all the current campaigns completed. We handle all the paperwork on your behalf which includes: • Processing all the paperwork with the DMV. • Paying off the vehicle with Volkswagen Credit. • Paying sales tax. • We do a deluxe car wash • All this for $495. For those customers who wish to purchase their car at lease end with no inspection at all, that transaction can only be done directly between the bank (VW Credit) and the lessee (you) and the dealership is not involved. My understanding is that the lessee may be responsible for some or all of the DMV processing. Speaking with Steve, he assured me that he went over this with you.
