Gilbert Anash was great! Due to COVID it was important to me to work out details remotely and limit time inside the dealership. They were very accommodating. Over ten years ago, I had a nightmare of an experience when I bought my first new car. Since then, I have bought cars for cash/title and a handshake, from buy/here pay/here places and even a small designe when I bought my first new car. Since then, I have bought cars for cash/title and a handshake, from buy/here pay/here places and even a small designer lot that had multiple finance companies available to work with me. This year, my husband was finally able to convince me that I deserved a new car. Of course, he had the perfect one all picked out for me. Luckily, he has great taste and the Volkswagen Atlas SEL FWD is a gorgeous truck. Online searches led him to City Volkswagen of Evanston, as they had multiple versions of this make and model available. More importantly, most of them were grey, his color of choice. I prefer to shop for motor vehicles alone, so I set off to Evanston one fine Saturday afternoon. Right away, I understood why he had chosen the Atlas SEL FWD. Volkswagen has some great cars and trucks to choose from, but the Atlas is one of the biggest and definitely the most beautiful. After taking a short stroll through the main inventory lot, I was greeted by Gilbert Ansah. He let me know that he was still working with a customer but that if I didn't mind waiting about five minutes, he would be back out to assist me. He also let me know that I did not have to wait and if I went inside there were multiple other sales associates to assist me. I liked his non-pushy approach and let him know that I would wait for him. He directed me inside where he helped me get coffee and a comfortable chair to sit in. He also returned in less than five minutes with a listing of all of the Atlas trucks that they had in inventory between their three lots. He sat down with me and went over the different features that were available and compared that to the trucks they had in inventory and we narrowed it down to three different ones. Gilbert let me take each one out for a test drive to help me decide which one fit me best. Once I decided which one I wanted, the used car manager took my trade in for a quick spin and gave me and Gilbert the trade in value. This was given to the finance guy and Gilbert quickly returned with an offer. I went over the details and signed all of the paperwork while the porters filled her up and gave her a wash. I am happy to say that I drove home in a beautiful new Atlas SEL FWD. Her name is Atlantis (see picture) and I couldn't be happier. Thank you Gilbert and City of Volkswagen of Evanston for turning a nightmare into a dream come true! More

He was very courteous, attentive, extremely patient, and took his time to explain everything to where I felt confident and fully informed on my purchase. Also my experience with the finance guy ( I believe his name was Brent) was great. It’s nice to work with people who enjoy what they do and are happy to help. I typically dread the process of buying a car, but this experience was very efficient and painless. No curveballs or surprises. I’m very happy with my new suv and would recommend Gilbert and this dealership for anyone looking for a great car buying experience. More
George from sales was great, he even came in on his day off to help finish the deal. I was going with my girlfriend to buy the car since she doesn't know much about car buying nor finance. We got a great d off to help finish the deal. I was going with my girlfriend to buy the car since she doesn't know much about car buying nor finance. We got a great deal on the car, the price was very reasonable for what we were getting. George was great, straight forward and an overall nice guy. The real issues that I had came when we got into the finance office. My gf has thin credit profile with one tradeline, so I knew getting her credit was going to be difficult. I expected finance to push warranties and try to sell other services which wasn't the issue. The real issue came when the finance manager (Brent I believe is his name) tried to coerce us into buying unnecessary products. He attempted what's called 'tied selling' which is a sales tactic to try and get a customer to buy a warranty for lower interest rate to pad his back end profits. At the blind eye, it might look like a good deal, but when you do the math on the interest saved vs principal increase you aren't actually saving money. Why would a bank think "hey lets make this deal less risky by cutting their apr in half and adding 2K in principal over the car's value" Brent told my gf that if she bought a $1,700 warranty, he could cut her apr down by 3%. Unknowingly, she agreed to it. After doing the math, we realized we were not getting a good deal. We came back the next day to cancel the warranty and Brent got PISSED. He was so mad that he started typing really hard and aggressively on his computer and snatching the paperwork out the printer. I told him I don't see why he's upset over us not buying a warranty we don't need. "You're not the one that has to go deal with my MANAGER!" He exclaimed. He tried to get us to sign for the warranty for about 5 minutes before giving up and getting upset. I don't know if he was more upset about the fact that we didn't buy the warranty or that we were onto how he was trying to finesse us into the sale. He even tried to convince us to buy the warranty and cancel after 45 days and pay a $50 cancellation fee. I told him multiple times we don't need the warranty and he just kept on and on about why we should get it. I honestly wasn't that upset over the tied-selling, I was more upset about how mad he got that we didn't want it and how he kept pushing and pushing us to get it despite how clear it was that we did not need it. Buyer's BEWARE. Even if they get upset or try to say how good of a deal they are giving, you do not need to get something you don't need. Overall, the dealership is nice and the cars are nice, I just did not like the sales tactic of the finance manager and how uncomfortable he made the transaction just because we didn't want to add unnecessary cost. First off, I want to state that this was our 6th VW dealership we visited over the course of 2 weeks - and we did not have the same experience here at any of those. We scheduled an appointment to test dealership we visited over the course of 2 weeks - and we did not have the same experience here at any of those. We scheduled an appointment to test drive, and most likely purchase a vehicle at this location. Upon walking in, no one greeted us at all for a solid 20 minutes. We needed to go ask the service clerk for help. We should've known then what kind of place this was. George was our salesman and he was honestly great. Highly, highly recommend this gentleman. If it wasn't for him, we would've walked out. There were a few issues we had with management and whoever was working in the service department. The financing gentleman, Lewis, was super nice and friendly. Sold me on the extended warranty, we added it to the car. He expressed that I can cancel at any time and told me to just email him if I changed my mind. I would receive a check for the pro rated amount if I chose to cancel. After financing, we get the car and at this point it's 11pm -internet went down, so financing took FOREVER. I get in the car and see that it was never detailed. When we pulled out of the lot, the gas tank was also empty and we had to fill up. Also, several scratches were on my car and they wanted me to bring it back to take care of it - this was agreed on before purchasing. Communication with this dealership is a joke. Went back the next day and spoke with a manager. He said to email him the receipt for my gas from the evening before. I emailed him a total of 3 times following up with my request to be refunded and he still has not replied - this car purchase was from June by the way!! He did offer me 1 free oil change because of all the issues, but not sure why he said he would refund the gas then if he wasn't going to. Fast forward to car scratches - dropped the car off to get fixed, they drove it back to me (that was nice!). Every scratch I pointed out originally was STILL there. We called and they said they would take it to a place who customizes in fixing the deep scratches. So, I had to drive all the way to Evanston AGAIN to drop off my new car (I live 70 minutes away by the way). They did give me a loner which was nice - 5 stars for that. They called me in a few days when the work was completed, I drive back... To find some of the same scratches still there. They did try to buff it out the best they could without completely removing the clear top coat but it's most definitely still there. At this point I'm fed up and don't want to see this dealership ever again. Oh, and I've emailed Lewis multiple times within the past month and I'm still waiting on a refund - go figure. Moral of the story? George is great and he earned 5 stars 100%! Super nice, down to earth guy and very willing to help. He was the middle man as far as communication. He gave out his cell phone number, so he was always quick to respond. Talk about customer service, this guy's it. Everything else, was two thumbs down. Of course, I love the way my car drives, VWs are great. But I wish I gave someone else my money. More
