Autobarn Evanston has always gone above and beyond to make me feel like a valued customer, both on the front end with car purchases as well as with continued service thereafter. I've purchased 5 vehicle make me feel like a valued customer, both on the front end with car purchases as well as with continued service thereafter. I've purchased 5 vehicles from them and would recommend them to anyone looking to do so. They have competative pricing and trade-in values, wide reaching inventory access, friendly and accomodating staff, and most importantly people with a passion for Volkwagen products. I'll be back to see them for my next VW purchase for sure More

Oh and I can't forget to mention the free car washes! I make sure to abuse that priviledge More

Jason is always willing to go the extra mile to get things right- especially when it is a difficult issue. i had some problems with the turbos on the touareg and they went to bat for me and covered everything with VW. it was a complex problem that took time to diagnose. Marrat took the time to fix it correctly and completely while keeping me informed during the process. They even texted me regarding the updates on my car while it was in process. if you want a dealer that you can trust- yes hard to believe- call Autobarn VW in Evanston. i would highly recommend the dealership. I've owned many high end european brands and the best service i have gotten is from Autobarn in Evanston More
Last Year in March of 2009 I was shopping for a New Car. I still loved my previous vehicle but do to the high mileage I was forced to start car shopping! I was fortunate enough to work with Raul Tomsa from the AutoBarn Volkswagen of Evanston. He was very informative and answered all of my questions in every aspect with buying a car! He also went above and beyond and make sure I received the exact options I wanted in my Volkswagen CC and didn’t pressure me into a car I was going to just be settling for! I feel that I also received a very fair price on the vehicle I was purchasing and the amount I received for my trade-in! I live in Arizona but my vehicle was delivered in Perfect condition! I am a very happy customer and I will definitely buy again from AutoBarn Volkswagen of Evanston! Thank you again Raul, from your very happy & satisfied customer, Janet Olari More
Although The Autobarn list cars online, they are NOT accommodating of online buyers. First, they refused to release the vehicle to be inspected by a mechanic located within 1 mi of their dealership (who accommodating of online buyers. First, they refused to release the vehicle to be inspected by a mechanic located within 1 mi of their dealership (who was even going to pick up the car himself), because it wasn't one of their mechanics. I did finally consent to a "pre-sale" inspection by one of their mechanics, but instead of a clear vehicle report (as I've received from 2 other pre-sale inspections of other vehicles), I was just fed the usual sales pitch. Second, and far worse, is that several hours after I agreed to buy the vehicle AND placed a deposit on it, they sold it to someone else! Hours of time and money wasted on this failed transaction. I'm very dissatisfied. I've received FAR better service at other dealerships. More
I am surprised this dealer is still in business. They are disrespectful, cocky, and have no idea about sales or customer service. The cars they sell are not certified, they charge extra weird charges in addi disrespectful, cocky, and have no idea about sales or customer service. The cars they sell are not certified, they charge extra weird charges in addition to what they advertise! The worst car buying experience ever. Waited for an hour to test drive the car, which was kept in some spooky warehouse. Salesman explained that the price of the car is 3500 more than the one advertised because they had to recondition the car and ship it from the auction and those costs are passed on to the buyer. They offer for trades thousands below the true value and do not negotiate. I came in ready to buy a car and after 2,5 hours of frustration I left with nothing. Thank Goodness! Sales lack knowledge, are lazy, disorganized and disrespectful. I can only imagine what aftersales customer care looks like.... Save yourself trouble and find a similar car somewhere else, where they will appreciate you as a customer and will treat you right! The price is deceiving. Common crook technique: post price online to attract customers and get their foot in the door, and then hit them with higher price (supposedly additional costs). Don't be naive and don't buy that scam. You are the one with money, you are the buyer, the economy is bad - they should be begging you to buy a car - not the other way around. There is a lot of cars out there and many nice dealers. Car buying should be a pleasant experience. You get to do it only so often. More
This dealer leaves a lot to wish for. Bad service, unreliable and don't stand for their word. Their service people need more training, they couldn't find the problem on my front wheel even after unreliable and don't stand for their word. Their service people need more training, they couldn't find the problem on my front wheel even after I TOLD THEM I had an problem at the wheel. Also, they made me wait for 4 hours for an oil change, They are giving bad reputation to VW cars. More
We were completely scammed - this dealership does not put any sticker prices on the cars. You are carted off to a warehouse where they tell you that all of the used cars of a certain model are in the same p any sticker prices on the cars. You are carted off to a warehouse where they tell you that all of the used cars of a certain model are in the same price range so that you can just pick one you like based on the colors you like when, in fact, the cars differed in price significantly and of course, we were given a price on one that was significantly higher. Then, they have advertised web prices that are significantly lower than what they offered us - they don't tell you about the different internet prices at the dealership so bring in a copy of the advertised web price - don't get screwed like we did. Also, the cars are only pre-certified so you pay an additional 1,500 at least added to the price of the car to certify it so you can get a decent finance rate. They also make you pay a 500 used car fee because they have to pay to have the cars shipped in from other places. I don't know if anyone else charges this, but be prepared for it. They also don't tell you that after you have agreed on a price, the warranty is so basic and minimal that they get you to purchase another extended warranty which adds a significant added cost into the price of the car. They are just not up front with the prices and are deceptive to deal with - what happened to ethics? More
The whole deal happened in April. I got my mazda and traded in my 1999 car for a measly $1000. Way lower than the blue book value. We were going to donate it, but the sales person insisted that they w traded in my 1999 car for a measly $1000. Way lower than the blue book value. We were going to donate it, but the sales person insisted that they will give us a great price for the trade in. I would like to know where you learn to lie with such enthusiasm. How do these people go home at night and sleep soundly?! Well, this wasn't the first bad omen. The WORST PART ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE WAS WHEN WE GOT A CERTIFIED LETTER FROM THE CITY OF CHICAGO SAYING THAT WE WERE STILL THE REGISTERED OWNERS OF THE 1999 VEHICHLE, WHICH WAS FOUND WITH ILLEGAL DRUGS IN IT AND MY HUSBAND HAS TO GO TO COURT NOW. THEY NEVER FILED THE PAPERWORK!!!!!!!!!!!! I called the sales manager and told him to fax me the documentation of the transfer so we can stay out of court. He took my name and numbers and I haven't heard from him since. It shouldn't take that long to find paperwork and the gravity of the situation SHOULD have made him extra expedient!! Now I have to call again today and I am sure nothing is going to happen. I wonder if they are avoiding me because they are still tied to the 1999 vehichle with the drugs in it. The whole place seems shady to me. Their service SUCKS. We signed up for an additional service package which got us 2 years standard maintanence. The first time my husband takes my car in, the service people claimed that they did not have us in our system and my husband had to pay for the service. Turns out, the geniuses mixed up the names of someone else who apparently had their car in for service. Someone with a very middle eastern sounding name...my husband and I are CLEARLY not middle eastern. So, again, a hassle to get our money back for extreme lack of attention to detail. Their "car washes" after each service amounts to dumping water on the car and not drying it. Sometimes this will lead to getting your car back in worse appearance than when you brought it in. I got a new car to avoid dealing with my prior dealership, Jennings Volkswagon, because my experience with them was so awful. Now I am going 0 for 2 on satisfaction. Is there an honest dealership out there?!?!?! More
After going through the usual price hagling game, my wife and I gave in and bought 2 cars in the same night. We enjoyed the V.W. models, but after a 8 days we recieved a phone call informing us that V.W. nee and I gave in and bought 2 cars in the same night. We enjoyed the V.W. models, but after a 8 days we recieved a phone call informing us that V.W. needed $5000 more because of negative equity in our trade. Why is it that we were not informed of this in a couple of business days? When I made a phone call to Autobarn I was told that there was nothing that they could do. Sadly, it is dealerships like this that give the industry a bad name. Shame on them. I should have gone to Luxury Motors as I planned. By the way, my 2007 Jetta had to be returned to the Autobarn the day after I purchased it because it was smoking and had a cracked CV boot. More
