Received a promotion in the mail that they would pay off the balance of our lease. We dealt with Robert who said they would also cover any mileage over that was allowed on the returned car. Several months l the balance of our lease. We dealt with Robert who said they would also cover any mileage over that was allowed on the returned car. Several months later after getting the new car, the lease was not paid off. We went to the showroom to find out what the problem was. Robert denied telling 3 of us that we had to pay nothing out of pocket to satisfy the lease payoff. He lied to us!! More
Be careful of any charges in contract. Snuck in a $3000 warranty saying its required for loan (found to be illegal after I researched) and $1585 for theft protection. This dealer is shady at best. When as warranty saying its required for loan (found to be illegal after I researched) and $1585 for theft protection. This dealer is shady at best. When asked about the total out the door price, I was told a number $4000 less than what it truly was. During a high stress and high paced environment, things like this are not noticed when you get 20 papers to sign. I was the negotiator and someone else signed so I did not see this paperwork, which is partially my fault, but I did my best. These guys are trained to make profit at the cost of your misery. To anyone in this situation, the $3000 warranty (which does not cover much and is likely less than the cost of an entire transmission replacement after interest) is easily cancelled and the dealership will be beat on 3000 profit. Theft coverage is non refundable. Avoid at all costs. This dealer wants to scam you. Better business bureau will be contacted. More

Overall, my impression is that their communication with the customer is poor at best, and shady at worst. I do not feel confident that my car was properly fixed, and even the paperwork does not say that the problem (damaged threads on the oil pan and filter) was “repaired,” only that the “damaged” threads were “cleaned” and “everything is good..no oil leaks as of now.” What??? How can you assess a part as “damaged” and then not clearly state in writing that the part was repaired, but still charge the customer $550. Every time I asked the service advisor Mr. Fares if the part was in fact “repaired,” he looked away and said “Everything is good now.” He refused to give an affirmative answer to my direct question. Only when I pressed him for it, and he could see that I was not going to take his vague dismissive answer did he actually say “yes” when I asked “were the threads actually REPAIRED?” By then of course it didn’t seem genuine. When I explained that he hardly made eye contact and did not give me a straight answer the first few times I asked, and that this felt like a red flag to me, he was very dismissive, bordering on rude. How hard is it to put in writing a list of exactly what was done and what the customer is paying hundreds of dollars for?? Also, they initially make every service customer agree to pay $252 for a “diagnostic” before even looking at the car. That is equal to two hours of labor; however, I have proof that they only spent 15 minutes on the “diagnostic” because I asked for them to email me the paperwork for the estimate and it shows that they identified the problem within 15 minutes of my leaving the car with them. Some $252 worth of diagnostic work!!! Eventually when I questioned this, the service advisor, Ali Fares, wavered, “well it might not be that much, depending on what the problem is and how much time it takes.” Regardless, you are signing that you are willing to pay $252, so I’m sure they plan to charge you for that—because they can! That said, if you do get your car fixed with them (which I don’t recommend), supposedly they charge only for the work and not for the diagnostic...and if the repair is under warranty, you are not supposed to get charged anything. But this understanding required a lot of clarifying questions on my part and further explanation from other staff, as Mr. Fares does not take care to communicate well with the customer. Maybe Bay Ridge Nissan should put this policy clearly in writing for the customer in order to save their time and annoyance and prevent misunderstandings. Please teach Mr. Fares to stop multi-tasking and give his full attention to the customer and to ensure that he is able to look them in the eye when he tells them what they are paying for. Also, it is unacceptable that the specific services done are not explicitly stated on the service paperwork given to the customer. That is common-sense professionalism. One more shady Bay Ridge Nissan practice is that they will remove your license plate holder—without your permission or knowledge—and replace it with one that advertises their name, to make it seem as though you bought your car from them!! (Seems like a desperate, pathetic & underhanded strategy to me. Why not just improve customer service in order to get more sales??) As a proud non-dealership customer (I bought my car through Carvana), I demanded they put my Carvana license plate holder back on, as I would like everyone to know that Carvana is a great alternative to dealing with shady dealerships, and I definitely cannot recommend nor advertise for Bay Ridge Nissan, based on this experience. I will be going elsewhere in the future. More
