Very shady and dishonest actions by your dealership. EMAIL SENT ON 11/25/17: Hi Mr. Ruggiero, I am a First Hyundai customer. I purchased my first car from your dealership in Oct 2016 (a 2013 Sonata Limited). I worked with James Clanton and had a fantastic car buying experience. I told James that I had been a Toyota customer for many years and had purchased from Boch Toyota South, and that I had also helped my father, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law purchase cars from Boch. But in Oct 2016, when looking to purchase another vehicle, I had a bad customer experience going back to Boch, which is why I ended up at First Hyundai. James helped me, and within 2 months of purchasing the car, I recommended and sent my same brother-in-law and a friend to First Hyundai, and they both purchased Sonatas. I also sent my sister-in-law there about 6 months after that and she purchased a Santa Fe. I am happy with my vehicle, and I am a fan of your dealership. At least I was a fan until the bad customer service experience I had today. I brought my car in today to have routine maintenance done (oil change). One of the reasons I purchased from First Hyundai was the First for Life program - the benefit of no charge lifetime oil changes, tire rotations, etc. seemed like a great benefit and differentiator of your dealership compared to others. Today, I was told that I was due for Maint Package #3, which would cost me $286. I said I just wanted an oil change. I was told that if I didn’t do Package #3, I would be opted out of the First for Life program and the oil change would cost me $50. When I purchased the vehicle, the First for Life program was mentioned and touted multiple times, but it was absolutely not explained that if I did not stick to your maintenance schedule, I would be opted out of the program. I was told Lifetime engine guarantee, oil changes, tire rotations, etc. for as long as I own the vehicle. No one explained otherwise to me - no one in sales, finance, or anyone I dealt with during the purchasing process. I spoke with Mateo Riz about this today. He explained to me what I described above. I showed him the pamphlets I was given during the purchase that detail the First for Life program. They do not mention any of this. They contain a footnote that says “See dealer for details.” No one explained these details. Mateo explained I need to stick to your recommended service schedule or I am out of the First for Life program. That’s very clear, I understand perfectly. Why didn’t anyone explain the program in those terms when I bought the car? This is dishonest and shady, plain and simple. It’s a classic bait and switch - you sold me one thing and then switched to another. I was lied to. And I’m not the only one. After asking some friends about their experiences with your dealership and researching feedback and reviews online, this is a common practice at First Hyundai. It’s more than a lack of transparency - it’s straight up lying to the customers and screwing them over. To say I am beyond disappointed in this experience with First Hyundai would be a wild understatement. My kids and my friends' kids are at driving age or approaching driving age within the next few years. That’s a lot of cars that will be purchased, and I would not recommend First Hyundai after this experience. If you cannot be trusted to be honest and transparent about this program, what other aspects of the purchasing process are you handling with the same disregard for the customer? I will be not be back to your dealership for sales or service, and I will be posting this email on your website, Facebook, Dealer Rater, the Better Business Bureau, and anywhere else I can find to warn every person I know and every person I don’t know about your shady treatment of customers. First service appointment Had my Sonata serviced for first time. As promised with purchase, the first appointment was covered at no cost as part of their lifetime package. Unfortunately, the Sonata has an annoying/intermittent squeak when going over bumps. They lubricated the bushings and I was on my way. Yep, the squeak has returned. Need to get this resolved. More
Great experience, Great Staff, and Decent Sales Experience My wife and I completed a lease transaction for a 2018 Sonata SEL. My initial contact with the dealership was online with Lindsey by text message and email. Lindsey was persistent but not pushy and communicated while I made final purchase decision. Our salesperson at the dealership was Obi and he was patient, proficient, and accommodating. The Manager on Duty Eric worked to get us the best deal possible so we were in the payment window we hoped for that fit our budget. We were disappointed to find out that we would not be given the opportunity to take our new car home on the day we signed all the documents and made a deposit. The reason was that dealership that I am sure sells many cars to many Rhode Islanders does not have access to the Rhode Island DMV's temporary plate system. In closing, the staff was professional and did a good job. If you are from Rhode Island be prepared that you likely will not go home with the car the day you close the deal. The dealership should look for away to get access to the RI DMV temporary plate system. More

First Hyundai and Derek treated me with respect and gave excellent customer service. They went through the process with me and not only answered my questions, but Listened to me! I have already recommended them and will continue to do so. More
