GEORGE HABBIB & DEGO CRUZ liars!!!! I came into Norm Reeves Honda Superstore in Cerritos. My lease was about to end on July 11th 2017, I came into Norm Reeves Honda on July 9th 2017. I d I came into Norm Reeves Honda Superstore in Cerritos. My lease was about to end on July 11th 2017, I came into Norm Reeves Honda on July 9th 2017. I decided to move forward with purchasing my 2015 Honda Civic as the lease was about to end. When I first leased my Civic in 2015 I was told that at the end of my lease it would be easy to finance it, I would not be able to negotiate the price and that it would be sold as is. I was scheduled to meet with Jennifer however she was unavailable so she set me up with Diego Cruz. In hind sight I should have read all the red signs that Cerritos Honda was not reliable. Diego was 20 minutes late to my appointment, from the beginning very unprofessional. The transfer from Lease to Finance should have been straight forward however he told me that Honda required I continue paying the GAP insurance since it was already included in the lease. Being a customer without knowledge in the Auto industry I believed him. So I said ok and he went ahead an added a $1,091.00 fee for something called ETHOS-EG-VSL2 also known as “Select Vehicle Coverage”. Diego seemed great, very friend, charismatic, I felt like I could trust him. I explained to him my current financial situation and he assured me I was getting the best deal. He also assured me I would not be paying any of the Vehicle License Fee’s since I would be moving forward from the lease to finance (which was a lie and I paid all the fees $336.75). So I would be saving $202.00 in Vehicle License Fee, $126.00 Registration/Transfer/Titling Fees and $8.75 in California Tire Fees. At this point in the appointment I was happy I was going to be able to purchase my vehicle hassle free. Finally I sit down with the Finance Department where I was introduced to George Habbib. George Habbib another charismatic family man who makes you feel very comfortable and safe began to offer me an array of “needed” additional insurances and warranties. He sold me on a favor he would do for me, he said that he wanted to help me out and give me the best option for my vehicle, and that although my vehicle is not “New”, it is considered “New” when switching from lease to finance. The “New Vehicle GAP” insurance, according to him a warranty that would cover anything from bumper to bumper on the vehicle for a fraction of the price for 72 month, he sold me on it when he said it would even cover replacing your vehicles tires. So I said yes, and he went ahead and added ETHOS-EG-VSC also known as “New Vehicle Coverage” for $2310.00. Lastly I was charged something called Optimal Debt Cancellation Agreement for 72 months EG-GAP for $800 that I failed to question what I was for. My vehicle was sold to me at 13,071.57 but with all fees included i was financing $18,942.84 with Honda Financial. Although the overall price was quite expensive i was convinced it was a great deal as I would never have to worry about a thing about m y vehicle for the next 72 months as it would be covered with the most coverage from GAP insurance. A few days after my visit I receive a text message from George that he needed me to return to Honda because I failed to sign the GAP insurance contract. At the time I was extremely busy making it nearly impossible to make it to Cerritos during the week. Both George and Diego were very persistent I come in immediately to sign the paper work, I was intrigued to see what was the hurry was. This is when I began to take a closer look at my contract, there were several acronyms I did not understand so I began to research on the internet. What I found was that the “EG-VSL2” and “ETHOS-EG-VSC” are in fact not GAP insurance but an Extended Warranty and that “EG-GAP” was in fact the only GAP insurance added to my contract. I was lied to at the dealership that what I was being sold on a completely different service. I was made believed that all three “added insurances” were GAP, I was kept under this impression throughout the whole transaction of the purchase. Under California Civil Code 2982 “No charges may be added to the contract without full disclosure and your consent”, I did not give George Habbib consent to add additional extended warranty, I consented to a premium GAP insurance. When I found this information I went ahead and told Diego I no longer wanted the GAP insurance or any warranty. He replied that he would work with George in finding a warranty that would be better suited for my budget. I then clearly stated I did not want budget friendly warranty, I want no extended warranty. Then George and Diego replied that they could no longer help me because Honda would now not loan me the money to finance the vehicle, that it is a Honda Financial Policy that in order to purchase a leased vehicle the owner must purchase the GAP insurance. They told me my only option would be to find another lender on my own or to reach out to my credit union. It was a nightmare, from being completely friendly they turned their back on me. However as I kept researching, on the back of the ETHOS-EG-VSC and the EG-VSL2 the contracts clearly states you have 60 days to cancel for a full refund. So I brought this up to George and he would not budge and not further assist me in explaining what the difference it would make if I signed the extended warranty in order to purchase the vehicle and then cancelled for a refund. Since we could not get anywhere over the phone I finally made it back to Norm Reeves Honda, where I met with George. I went by myself, I met with George and ask if we could have someone sit in with us and he declined. He said we did not need anyone in the room, that he and I could handle the situation. I told him I was unhappy with the “extended warranty”, something I did not want, this is where he began to blame me for not being more attentive to the contract, which he is correct for. However this is where he is supposed to have some sort of work ethic or morality to not lie or cheat people. As a person that does not work in the Auto industry I choose to go to deanship’s that have high ratings to feel some sort of security that I am not being ripped off. However in this case it worked against me. He then chose to blame the whole ordeal on me, that if I would have been paying closer attention I would have known the difference between the GAP and extended warranty. No, had he explained them thoroughly I would have understood the difference just as I did when I read the information online, he explained to me a GAP insurance that does not exist, and as I told him why would I pay for an extended warranty that is almost 1/3 of the price of the vehicle. Again his response was simple, he said that he could not help me if I would not purchase any of the extended warranty and that I would have to return another day to speak to a manager. Mind you this was already two weeks after the initial purchase. I told him that fine I would return but not without making a grievance complaint first, this is when his attitude change. I had researched the California DMV Car Buyers Bill of Rights, and told him that I would take the necessary steps to file a grievance. This was 45 minutes into our conversation, he then told me to give him 15 minutes to see who he could speak to, another 10 minutes passed and he came into the office asking what I wanted to be taken off the contract, I said all the GAP and extended warranties, he did it, hassle free. It was total of about 2 and half weeks going back and forth trying to agree on what I wanted, in those two weeks I was lied to the whole time, that it was mandatory to purchase the GAP insurance and extended warranty in order to finance with Honda Financial, it was a lie because not only was I able to purchase the vehicle through Honda Financial without GAP or extended warranty and I also called Honda Financial to verify if this was true and they confirmed it was a lie and inquired about George Habbibs and Diego Cruz names. What bothered me the most was that after George got the “ok” to move forward with the transaction he told me that “to not take it personal, that at the end of the day they have a living to make also and that unfortunately they make their money off the sales of these warranties.” Well my response to him was “I do take it personal, because it is my money and I choose how to spend it.” There was so much more lying and go back and forth with both George and Diego, I have various text messages saved from both in which they are clearly lying. Overall I was lied to I was being charged for ETHOS-EGVSC $2310.00, EHOS-EG-SEL2 $1091.00, Optimal Debt Cancellation Agreement $800 and all Vehicle Licenses Fees $336.75, a total amount of $4,537.75, fortunately I was able to research and clarify where I was being lied to and was only left having to pay the Vehicle License Fees, according to George and Diego I am responsible for the fees since I did not take the warranties and they had to redo the contract. This is just a snap shot of the stressful and horriblemy experience that I encountered at Norm Reeves Cerritos has been. There was so much lying, fraud and corruption. Fortunately I was able to research on my own. It saddens me that such a huge dealership like this is potentially lying and cheating its customers. Many of the people in the neighboring cities surrounding Cerritos do not have the privilege to be educated and probably would not know how to research extensively. If this could have happened to me, having some sort of education I can only imagine the how others are being lied to and ripped off. More
