Deceptive business practices with up sale techniques to create fear/scare tactics. My car is coming in for the 12k service/oil change. Immediately I am told they highly recommend an alignment, at $199.00 create fear/scare tactics. My car is coming in for the 12k service/oil change. Immediately I am told they highly recommend an alignment, at $199.00. I said, why, my car doesn't pull, it would go straight on a flat road until it ran out of gas. I have owned cars my whole long life, and while not a mechanic, I think I have a pretty good understanding of basic car functioning. So, at this point, I am saying no, so they up the ante. Your tires could wear out unevenly, and cause the need for tires sooner. Really, a car that is functioning exactly as intended would have uneven tire wear? The sale tactics continued, I said no, how many times would I need to say that? I am a hard pass. Ok, he gives up. Fast forward to coming out to me with the paperwork to sign, service has been completed. So I say, let me ask you this, if I came in, and said, hey, my car is pulling to the right, would the alignment have been fully covered by my warranty. He hemmed and hawed, and said yes. So I continued, you would willing sell me something I don't need for $199, but if I did need it, it would be free under the warranty. He said, well, yes. I said I wanted my concerns over what I see as deceptive practices shared with a service manager and I would like a call. No call. I reach out today, and I do get a call back. The manager was condescending, and did nothing to really show concern. I was treated like a giant pain, and if I could please just quietly go away, is the feeling I received. I told her that is how I was feeling, and she said she didn't mean to come across that way. Here's the deal, in my opinion, she tried to "sell" me that this 12k alignment is a "industry wide recommendation" (no doubt dealerships that want more revenue?). I asked, are you telling me that this is recommended by Subaru - and she said no. So there you have it, buyer beware, you are going to get gouged for unneeded service, all with a smile, unless, unless you complain about it, then you can just get lost. I say, get lost first, avoid them. More

Subaru has a lot of stock to pick from and salespeople that aren’t pushy. One downside is the “no haggle pricing,” truly means no haggle.
