We feel we can get a very fair deal from Ken, he has always been helpful with any questions. We have had many Toyota cars over the past years. Sheila West always been helpful with any questions. We have had many Toyota cars over the past years. Sheila West More
It's been a month since my experience at Toyota, but every person I talk to says I absolutely must write a review, especially since they say I'm not the first person who they've heard had a bad experie every person I talk to says I absolutely must write a review, especially since they say I'm not the first person who they've heard had a bad experience. So, someone who's been scared away needs to take the time to follow-up and write what happened: I did not have a good experience at Toyota of Des Moines. I am a young female, first-time car buyer, and I was very excited about finally completing my masters degree and buying myself a new car to get me cross country to the new position I had accepted. I brought my dad along to help me out since I was unfamiliar with the process. When we go to the dealership, we headed straight for the new Camry I had been scoping out. Ken came out to help us. My dad explained we were shopping around for a car that day. Ken opened up the car while we asked him questions, not really offering any information. We asked if he'd like to look at my trade-in and see if it was something they would consider if we bought a car. He said "No, I think not." I asked if they didn't take trade-ins, and he said that they did. He eventually handed us the keys to let us drive it and left. It was a little odd because I had always envisioned the dealer goes with you to explain the car and how it works as you drive it, especially since I've been driving a car from 1995, there were a lot of new features in the car I was unsure about (even adjusting the steering wheel was more high tech and took me awhile on my own). I asked my dad during the drive if buying a car was always this uncomfortable, and he told me absolutely not, that something weird was going on. I liked the car during the drive, it was nice, but I was so sick to my stomach about how I was being treated. I was so distracted by trying to figure out is it because I'm young? Female? Drove an old car onto the lot? Don't look like I have money? When we got back to the dealership, Ken came out go into the car, and drove it to the opposite side of the lot, far away from us. My dad and I kind of looked at each other like, "Well, I guess any questions we had will not be answered..." After a couple minutes he finished the walk back to us, and it was awkward again. Again, we had to pry out of him what deals Toyota even had right now (0% financing on new vehicles, college student credit, etc.). Ken eventually said, "I've been here 30 years and I can tell." I asked him what that means, and he said he "can just tell." Then he told us, "For future reference, so you get along with the next dealer, don't tell them you are shopping around." Then he proceeded to try to tell us what cars we going to go leave and look at next. It was just horrible, I felt so judged and disrespected. We eventually asked for his information just in case, thinking I still liked the Camry, but definitely knowing I needed to get away from this dealership for awhile. When we walked into the building there were several people in suits all standing around doing nothing and staring at us. It felt like an inquisition. When we drove off, my dad had to keep reassuring me it shouldn't have been like that, and pushed me to keep looking for a car. I knew I wanted a mid-size car, so we went to Honda to look at the Accords. They were AMAZING there. We explained our experience at Toyota with them and they said we aren't the first customers they've sent their way. In the waiting room, other customers there told us it definitely was not our fault, that they've heard horror stories, too. They said if you really want a Toyota in the area, that we should head to Ames, but to stay clear of Des Moines. I wish I would have known that before, but seeing a Toyota on the road or hearing it's name was already leaving a bad taste in my mouth. They joked around about how silly it was to to turn a first-time buyer, someone who has a whole lifetime yet of buying cars, against the company. They made me feel so much better, the fact that I was a customer that they valued and wanted to work with. Unfortunately, Honda did not have any brand-new Accords that day. We drove to Dewey Ford in Ankeny next to try another mid-size car, the Ford Fusion. They had plenty of them, and I was treated like royalty. Customers there had also heard of Toyota's reputation. The sales people at Dewey really worked to find a car that fit me. They took the time to explain the car and financing options, which was so nice since I was new to everything. They told me essentially the same thing that Honda had--as a first-time buyer, we want to get you in one of our cars that you like so that you keep thinking of us when you go to buy again. I keep re-iterating that because I want fellow buyers to know that your business is worth something, and you should take it to someone who thinks so, too. That day I drove off with a 2011 Ford Fusion, and yes, they took my trade-in. It was such a good ending to a day that had started out horrible thanks to Toyota. Maybe if you are a well-established looking individual who already knows everything about the car you are buying, you'll be fine there. But, if you are new to the car buying experience, they will walk all over you at Toyota. I highly suggest finding a dealer who is moderately patient, flexible, and helps you make an educated decision. More
The moment I walked into Toyota of Des Moines, I was greeted by a sales rep., later identified as ebing Shane Siegle. He assisted me from the moment I entered to the moment I exited. He was friendly an greeted by a sales rep., later identified as ebing Shane Siegle. He assisted me from the moment I entered to the moment I exited. He was friendly and very helpful and he knew that I did not want to 'waste' alot of time. I told him what I wanted and he made it happen. When we got our new vehicle home, we found that the bumper was damaged in thre (3) spots, so I called Shane immediately and relayed same to him. Again, he was very helpful and he knew that I was very upset. Shane Siegle was very professional and helpful. He did an excellent job and I would utilize his skills in the future if necessary! More

Scott was great and wish I could remember the other names..the guy who had us sign the paperwork and the guy who went over the vehicle with us. The guy who went over the vehicle was thorough and yet didn't "bore" us with things that we already knew. I will recommend this dealership to anyone....please pass our comments on to the staff in Des Moines..they were great! More
Stopped in to look at Corollas, didn't really expect to find a price that was satisfactory. However they were very willing to deal, and the vehicles they had on the lot were excellent, great selection. W find a price that was satisfactory. We have been pleased with Toyota of Des Moines. We just purchased our third vehicle from them in less than ten years. We have purchased a truck, a car, and now a mini-van from them. The last two purchases purchased our third vehicle from them in less than ten years. We have purchased a truck, a car, and now a mini-van from them. The last two purchases were made with William Godwin. He was friendly and professional, but what we appreciated most about him was that he followed through with exactly what he said he would do. We purchased a used mini-van, and it need the far back head-rest fixed and the knobs to the a/c was broken. He said he would get them both repaired, and he did. When we bought our truck from him about a year ago, he said he'd put new tires on it and get all the paint chips fixed. To our delight, they were high -end off-road tires! The paint touch-ups were so well done you could not tell where they had been. We are absolutely thrilled with the service we received from Toyota of Des Moines, but more specifically, William Godwin. We will definitely do future business there. More
Connor Delaney was extremely knowledgable and very open and friendly as a sales rep, and he was very helpful with information about the car as we took the test drive. The buying experience was easy. I came and friendly as a sales rep, and he was very helpful with information about the car as we took the test drive. The buying experience was easy. I came in one early afternoon and purchased the car the very next morning. I appreciate the wide choice of inventory in the new Camry's. I was able to purchase one right off the lot, because you had exactly what I liked. Bill Klomsted was very friendly, too, and very helpful. I left the dealership knowing a lot about the "bells and whistles" of my new car, and Bill said I can come back any time for further help and instruction. That means a lot, because new cars can be a bit confusing, and you want to begin enjoying them fully right away. More
