Very disappointed. Everything was going swell until we got to the lease/finance part of the deal. We got a great upfront price from this "one price" Toyota dealership. Everything was going swell until we got to the lease/finance part of the deal. We got a great upfront price from this "one price" Toyota dealership. Most all of their C-HRs had a 6.5% discount on them except the one we ended up buying which had 10% off MSRP offer that I could not beat elsewhere on a similar vehicle so we were happy and sat down to do deal. Planned on putting down $15k and financing the rest for a few weeks until the sale of our existing vehicle went through with Carvana. Salesman convinced us to do a lease instead of purchase in order to get extra $2000 discount from Toyota. I specifically asked about any additional fees for the lease and the salesperson said "No" just the doc fee and tax title tag etc, usual customary same as purchase. Later in the finance office I quickly caught the $750 lease origination fee and almost walked out but understood that I was still ahead by $1250 less any transfer fees when buying vehicle outright in a few months as is our plan so still up by $1000. Then as we are declining all the add ons and extended service etc., the finance guy starts explaining how much added benefit we get from leasing instead of purchasing and the extra service and maintenance and all these benefits we will get and starts to ask us to sign on the bottom line after showing us our reasonable $202 monthly lease payment. I asked to see the whole contract so I could see the final purchase numbers, lease buyout numbers, etc and he said it was all on the computer and proceeded to scroll through the numbers. As he scrolls I see a number, $1853 that I didn't recognize and I said "what was that?" and pointed at the number on the screen as he scrolled it off the top of the page. Then he scrolled it down and as I pointed at it he scrolled it off the bottom of the page. Then he scrolled it back up off the top of the visible page again. It was like a sitcom or a cartoon. Did he think he was hiding it by swiping up and down off the page after I had already caught it. I think the comedy of it all actually helped quell my temper just enough to prevent me from just ripping up the paperwork on the table and storming out. Turns out he had included an $1853 additional service package without us agreeing to it and simply told us that it was the benefit of having the lease. I felt like he was literally trying to pick my pocket with a smile. I felt like pulling my pepper spray and spraying him in the face right then and there because he was literally trying to take money from us and then hide it when caught. I finally made him scroll to the exact number and he finally confessed that it was a special service plan for an additional $1853 and that it was optional. Pretty sure he could sense my boiling anger and contained rage and he quickly revised the numbers and got us out of there. He was xxxxxx that he had to stay after hours and didn't get to put that extra $200 commision in his pocket for selling that overpriced unnecessary plan in the sleazy manner he intended to sell it. No, not sell it, just include it and take it from us. The only bad thing I had read about this dealership was that they try to get you on the back end, and boy were they right. Happy with my particular deal but only because I caught them and didn't lose my $1853, and not at all happy with the experience. Good deals can be had here, but watch your back, and your front, and both of your sides. Don't let your guard down for a second. More
