Just to preface, I'm fairly handy in a garage and know at least a little bit about what goes on beneath the hood of a car. Being new to the area and just finishing a cross-continent drive in my 2014 Crosstre least a little bit about what goes on beneath the hood of a car. Being new to the area and just finishing a cross-continent drive in my 2014 Crosstrek, I decided to get an oil change and coolant flush on top of figuring out why my A/C went kaput halfway across the country. I called the dealership and asked for availability regarding the above services, and was pleased to find they could get me in within two weeks and have a courtesy car/loaner available so I could get other things done while the car was there. Beyond this, apparently one of the components for the rear brake lights was recalled, and they were going to replace the part. Sounded good! During the lunch hour, I received a call that several things beyond what I had asked for were in need of repair, and on top of that they wanted to replace the hoses for my coolant system. I was not about to double the day's bill when I could do the hoses myself at a much reduced cost, so said over the phone to pass on that. I did ask why they suggested as such, and was told that the hoses were completely fine and that it was simply regular maintenance (more on that later). Upon going back to the dealership, I was glad that I did not elect to pursue anything beyond my original goal: the suggested repairs/maintenance would have cost me in excess of $5000, and none were nearly immediate and were avoidable through regular maintenance. The A/C repair they diagnosed was that an o-ring within the compressor was broken, and I was loather to pay close to $400 to get that fixed when it was clear that the diagnosis stopped at the o-ring and they refrained from checking the rest of the system (and there very well could still be other issues). Cue a little under a day and a half later, when upon parking the car I noticed vapor coming from under the hood. For the first time since leaving the dealership, the hood was opened to find that my upper radiator hose had been slashed and clear blade marks were visible. I duct-taped it to limp to work the next morning, then replaced the hose (and had to re-flush my coolant system completely) as soon as I could after. I repeat, clear blade marks and a three-inch slash through my upper radiator hose in a place that would not be subject to a pressure burst, and the last time a human had seen under the hood was at the dealership. I had checked under the hood and the coolant system before going there to make sure I did need the oil and coolant replaced the night before, just in case, and there was nothing wrong with and no damage to the hose at that time. The damage to the hose had to have taken place during the car's stay at the dealership. Cue tonight, the next day, and now one of the the same brake lights they replaced a part for due to the recall is no longer functioning. I will be fixing that myself, thank you very much. In short: I would not go there for service, ever. Not if the staff are willing to sabotage your car to get you to come back. I would not trust them with my vehicle after this. I ended up having to redo everything they were supposed to do except change the oil. If you do have to go there, make sure they repair the car where you can see them do it. More
