I was greeted by Miguel Meza who was very friendly and took care of me. Turned out the problem was just a hose that needed to be reattached. No parts even needed! I appreciate the honesty as I have been "had" before with car repairs. I decided to get an oil change/70,000 mile tuneup package. I was happy with my experience here as I am always hesitant to take my car to an actual dealership for service. Everyone was very courteous and helpful, and I appreicated the complimentary Lyft ride home after I dropped off my car. More
This time my experience was entirely satisfactory. This was a remarkable change from my last encounter, which was awful! I’ve had all service work done here. This is where I purchased the car. I tried twice to contact the department through their online messaging portals to request an appointment. First I tried Facebook Messenger, where the dealership has been highly responsive in the past. They use an integration with Edmunds.com on that platform, and an agent took my information in a chat and told me the dealership would be in touch. They weren't. Then I tried the contact form on the dealership's website. Same thing. No reply, ever. 2. I ultimately called and spoke with an agent who took the same information and set up an appointment for me. When the agent told me to go into the small, windowless office in the service department to drop off my vehicle, I asked what protocols or precautions the dealership was taking to allow for social distancing. She sounded confused, like I'd just asked if a clown would be on site giving out cotton candy. She told me there wasn't one, but that she would add it to my appointment notes that I preferred contactless drop-off. No one seemed to ever see these notes. 3. The 60,000 mile inspection costs more than $700 for a 2011 Jetta TDI 2.0. I compared each item in the inspection with the owner's manual and decided to shop around for future reference only after authorizing this work. (It had been so difficult to set up the appointment that I didn't want to wait, and besides, I needed another repair done simultaneously that's covered by my warranty.) I called two service centers. One offered to do the same work for $350, and another said they'd do it for free with an oil change. I doubt the free inspection included the replacement materials this dealership provides, but still. Wow. That's a big gap. 4. I have to give credit and thanks where it's due, though: VW of Downtown Chicago is offering free pick-up and delivery in light of Covid-19, which I only learned from a pop-up on their website days after my service began. Knowing this sooner would saved me a great deal of unnecessary coordination (and why didn't that agent who set up my appointment know about this?), but I do appreciate the service. VWDT Chicago delivered my vehicle only 45 minutes late after the repairs were finished. Not bad, I guess. P.S. Shoutout to Adam Khamsot, who delivers some of the best customer service I've ever received anywhere. I didn't have the pleasure of working with him this time, but he's always been great in the past. Ask for him by name if you bring your car here. More
