I was pressured into buying a new car. I can’t afford it. My payments and loan are too high. I owned a 2020 Subaru Forester I loved. It only had 85,000 miles on it. I brought it in for service in the brakes and I was told by the manager I should buy a new car because my mileage was high and my warranty would end in a year. I drove my previous Subaru Forester to 215,000 miles before I traded it in. No reason to buy a new car. I have never bought a new car. I always buy used cars because that is all I can afford. I told them many, many times that I could not afford a new car. They kept pressuring me to buy a new car. The experience was so upsetting that somehow I ended up buying the new one. I never saw the sticker price and no one went over the loan amount with me. They spent a lot of time negotiating a monthly payment and I kept telling them I couldn’t afford it. The pressure was so high that somehow I ended up in the finance office signing documents that appeared in a huge desk screen and I couldn’t see anything. A week after buying the new car, the loan amount was $47,000!!! I was very upset and went back to the dealer. I told them I wanted my old car back which was still on the lot but they told me I couldn’t have it. The brakes had been fixed and paying for that service would have been affordable. The old car had been brought to the front of the dealership and I couldn’t see it outside the window. I pleaded with them to give me my older car back but they said they couldn’t do it. The pressure to trade in the one I bought for a Crosstrek although I continued to tell them I wanted my older car car back was so upsetting. They left me no choice but to buy the Crosstrek in a color I don’t like and a scratchy material I don’t like and no power seats and an interior I don’t like. After all this pressure, the general manager came over to the sales table twice to make sure I gave them a high rating on the survey. My payments went up to $622 per month an I have a loan amount for $40,000! I had to borrow money to make the first payment and my credit score went down 50 points. Every time I look at my new car I feel upset, angry and anxious. I’ve been so upset that I couldn’t fill out this survey. A lawyer friend told me to fill out the survey to see what Subaru would do. I hope that Subaru will make this right and put me in a car that I can afford. More
