You brought your Durango to us after having your mechanic diagnose a misfire. He told you that it "may" be covered under warranty after he replaced some spark plugs and one coil pack with an aftermarket part. You admitted that the misfire "jumped around" and that you "do not go to dealerships for everything". As your Durango has 64,000 miles, an aftermarket coil pack, and mismatching spark plugs ( more than one brand) in a Hemi which has 16, we recommended a tune up and replacement of the aftermarket coil pack. This would allow us to bring the engine back into specs in order to 1) see if that corrected the misfire, or 2) allow additional evaluation to see if it was indeed a warrantable component if a misfire was still evident. We do not see tuning an engine at 64,000 miles and replacing a single aftermarket coil pack back to a factory unit as "unnecessary repairs" as we see drivability issues sometimes caused by aftermarket parts. Also having different make plugs throughout an engine could also cause drivability issues. Regarding your "guy", it is not possible for us to rely 100% on an independent shops evaluation especially when considering a warranty repair. We must do our own proper evaluation to determine the cause and 1) repair it correctly, and 2) file the warranty claim for reimbursement. As a factory authorized dealership, our technicians are trained and certified to complete warranty repairs and routine maintenance with MOPAR parts so you can achieve a high level of reliability. We do not offer "partial" repairs. We are sorry you only see the need to return to a dealership for warranty repairs. We have many happy customers who see us for all routine maintenance, recalls, and, warranty repairs. They know we are on not the least expensive solution, however, they do know that their vehicle will have factory approved parts and the most up to date software for their engine and transmission systems.

Troncalli Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram responded

During your initial visit with the Cherokee, we pulled the check engine code which directed us to replace the transmission with a new unit even though the vehicle was still drivable. We had the new transmission in stock and could have replaced it in 48 hours. Our service advisor did offer you a vehicle to drive from our fleet of 21 loaner vehicles. However, you became angry, refused to sign the repair order to approve the work on your vehicle and instead decided to email Jeep. After you hung up on me, I emailed you and again offered you a courtesy vehicle and asked that you sign the repair order to begin the repair process which you refused. It wasn't until Mrs. Bureau came by and spoke to me that we were able to get the repair order signed giving us authorization to begin the needed repair and provide a loaner vehicle under warranty. We value your business and understand your frustration. Had you authorized the repair during your initial visit, we could have provided a loaner and completed the repair in 48 hours.
