Top level service throughout! We had researched several different car models and dealerships. We knew we didn't want to go back to a VW dealership in downtown Chicago so we opted We had researched several different car models and dealerships. We knew we didn't want to go back to a VW dealership in downtown Chicago so we opted for the Evanston Autobarn because we could look at both VW and Mazda. After test driving a Mazda CX3 and not liking it, we walked next door to the VW dealership to loot at getting another GTI. Staff was very friendly and let us look around until we wanted to look more at the GTI. I approached John Gorzelnik and he took us over to the lot to test drive a GTI. John clearly explained the "upgrades" to the SE model compared to our current S model. We pretty much decided that we were going to take the test drive car that day. When we got back to the dealership, John quickly got us numbers we liked and we were financed in a matter of minutes. We eventually got everything signed and took our new GTI home. Once we got home though, we noticed a sizable "gouge" above the front driver side wheel well. This had obviously been done at the dealership because you could tell they had tried to cover it up. Granted, we should have looked closer before driving it off the lot but this also should have been spotted by the dealership and/or salesperson. We contacted John immediately and he instructed us to bring the car back to take a look at it. At this point, we thought we were screwed. We thought they were going to be jerks and say it's our problem since we already drove the car home. But John and his team were complete opposite of that. They admitted it was their fault. They took the car back and promised to fix the gouge and even gave us a Jetta as a loaner until our GTI was fixed. No questions asked. No run around. They simply stepped up and did the right thing. A week later we had our GTI back and love it. We've bought cars from several dealerships and had good & bad experiences at all of them. VW Evanston easily was the best car buying experience we've ever had and that's mainly due to John. He got us the perfect car and when there was an issue, he stepped up and took care of it. More
