Typical dishonest, xxxxxxx business My experience with George Gee Kia (around Feb 12) was literally one of the most ridiculous, time-wasting sessions of childish stupidity that I've ever My experience with George Gee Kia (around Feb 12) was literally one of the most ridiculous, time-wasting sessions of childish stupidity that I've ever allowed myself to be entertained with. I went there looking for a Kia Soul for my wife directly after driving back from Kennewick, WA that afternoon to look at a different Kia Soul (which should have been a clue to the poltroons at George Gee that I'm willing to travel to find the best deal). So we arrived later in the evening and eventually spoke with Ian Higgins... the... "Internet Manager" (because I made the unfortunate choice to originally inquire about this car on their web site). To make a long story short, Ian, to his credit, showed the car very well to us and even allowed us as much time as we needed to test drive it. However, once we got back to the dealership and sat down to discuss what a sale might look like, Ian's friendly demeanor quickly changed. First of all, never once in my dealings on the George Gee web site, or with Ian, did I ever proclaim that I was ready to purchase that day, that week, that month, or even in this lifetime. When we sat down (at around 7:30pm) to go over possible financing scenarios, I was prepared with an auto loan app on my tablet, just to make sure the numbers provided to me by the dealership were correct. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the fact that Ian only presented 72-month and 78-month financing options. There was absolutely no comparison to a standard 48, or 60-month option (which means they're likely incentivized by the financing company to make money off of the consumer by pushing longer term loans). The next problem was the addition of an $875 "Certified Pre-Owned" (CPO) fee. Since it was later in the evening and my wife and I were literally on the road all day to Kennewick and back, I really didn't want to get into a discussion about the absolute ridiculousness of the CPO. Thirdly, Ian proposed a $400 documentation fee, which, if you have any sort of pulse, you'd understand how completely laughable that is. The last egregious thing in the numbers game was that Ian's calculated monthly payment was $53 higher per month than my calculation using the EXACT same numbers. At this point, I really didn't want to get into the typical back-and-forth concerning the idiocy of their proposal and I wanted to simply go home and discuss the experience with my wife. So, I told Ian precisely that. I said, "I think I'm simply going to go home and take some time to discuss what I've seen here tonight with my wife." "What for?" "I don't understand" "Why would you want to do that?" "I've done all of this for you." (Yes... he literally said that to us) He acted like we just kicked his dog and stole his lollipop. It was the most bizarre display of childish stammering that I think I've ever witnessed from a grown man. Not to mention the fact that trying to question the manner in which my wife and I decide to conduct our personal decision-making isn't really going to enamor us into suddenly making a purchase. When he finally got the message that we were leaving the dealership, he shook my wife's hand with a pleasant smile, then turned to me and shook my hand with the most sheepish look of displeasure possible. Completely unprofessional. The next day, I e-mailed the dealership's Sales Manager, Robert Billick, and CC'ed the General Manager, Eric Gamache to discuss my experience as one of their "customers" and to further ask them to provide me with answers concerning why Ian's monthly payment calculation was vastly different than mine - and - what specific value does an $875 CPO fee bring to the customer. I have yet to receive any return e-mail from either of them. The story has a great ending however. I have since purchased the EXACT same Kia Soul from a fantastic car showroom in Seattle (in a much better color) for $900 lower in price than George Gee with no added $875 CPO fee and the documentation fee of $150 was waived (which is $400 in savings off of George Gee's insane $400 doc fee). That's $2175 saved (not to mention the lower tax on that savings) just by doing my homework, being willing to travel for the best deal, and not caving in to the childish foolishness you can expect to find at George Gee Kia. I have never seen a car dealership go out of their way to NOT sell a car - until I stepped foot on the George Gee Kia lot. You'd think by now that car dealerships would understand that, in the Internet age, the market has opened up incredibly wide for consumers to take their time and find the most sensible deal. We're no longer restricted to our "home town" dealerships. However, the "Internet Manager" at George Gee Kia apparently doesn't understand how effective marketing and sales on the Internet actually works; nor does he understand how large the regional market is; let alone the global market. I would recommend avoiding this xxxxxxx George Gee outfit in Couer d'Alene. More
