They will do anything to take extra money from you! I purchased a VW at at Lakeland VW in Lakeland, Florida. Due to being a military family, the financing took longer than expected, as there were issues with registering the car in the state it will be housed vs. the state it was purchased in. The dealership was aware that I was coming in to buy the car that day, as I was in on three days prior to purchase and was in regular contact with the salesman about the purchase, so there was adequate time to get the financing and registration issues taken care of on their end, as has happened with other vehicle purchases in the past. On the day of purchase, the finance agent knew that I needed to leave to release my child care and when the paperwork was finished, which took much longer than expected, and I had limited time to review it. I was given the highest interest rate I have ever received (my credit score was well above 800) as well as a prepayment penalty which I was not informed of. While signing the paperwork, I asked what the rate was, thought it was very high, but figured I would refinance when I could review other loans. However, the prepayment penalty (again which I was not informed of and the lending agent I spoke with reported she had never seen one in TD auto finance since she worked there) prevents me from refinancing for a lower interest rate. I always pay my loans off quickly and would never have agreed to this if I had been made aware of it by the agent. In the interest of transparency, it should have been disclosed that this was not a simple interest loan and the difference between what I was signing and the typical loans offered at 99% of other institutions. Everybody I tell about the prepayment penalty seems shocked that this is still something they have, including the agent at TD Auto where I called to try to pay off the loan! I feel I was treated unfairly and not given an honest review of the financial agreement. Other dealerships have tried to get me the best interest rate available. This was definitely not the case at Lakeland VW. This is not a way to treat a long time VW customer, who also purchased one of the TDI recall Jettas that needed an entire fuel system replaced due to the car stopping randomly and I still went back to VW! I called customer care on 3.3.20 to let them know what happened and they told me the dealership would contact me about this. As of today, they have not. When I emailed them, them basically told me I am stuck with this and to have to accrue interest for six months with this high rate. I assume they did this as a sneaky way to try to make even more money off the car purchase than what the sticker price was. I am not a difficult customer. I bought the car for sticker price and did not try to bring the price down or get any special deals. I feel that I should have been treated with a little more respect and transparency. Again- Be careful here- they will do anything to take extra money from you!!! More
