This is the second Subaru that Matthew has helped me purchase. He is very patient with my numerous questions and makes the car buying process virtually painless for me ;). Both times, I have felt like purchase. He is very patient with my numerous questions and makes the car buying process virtually painless for me ;). Both times, I have felt like I got the best price for an awesome vehicle. This was the first time I met Steven, and he was skilled at explaining the paperwork and important details when signing all of the documents. In fact, everyone that I have met in Customer Service has been courteous and has made me feel valued. And, that is the reason that I will drive 60 miles (and brave I85 traffic) to visit Subaru of Gwinnett. More
John Anderson, the service advisor, was very professional and courteous! He explained how long the wait was anticipated to be and showed us where the break room was located. I love Subaru. When it was time to purchase a car for our college-aged daughter, we thought an older Outback would be perfect. 4th one for our family! Because we we When it was time to purchase a car for our college-aged daughter, we thought an older Outback would be perfect. 4th one for our family! Because we were shopping for an older model with around 100k miles, I thought it would be best to purchase from a Subaru dealership instead of Frank's Used Kar Korner. We felt confident the car would have passed through a rigorous inspection process and a Subaru dealer would want to stand behind their brand and their reputation. (Can you see where I'm going with this?) I searched online via the usual car websites and found a 2011 Outback with 110k miles at Subaru of Gwinnett. The price was a little higher than the equivalent vehicles at the smaller dealerships, but I thought I'd spend a little extra to be confident that we were buying a quality car that would last. Carfax seemed ideal - one owner, recent timing belt replacement, newish tires - yay! Test drive went well. No wiggle room on price, though. And yes, they gave me that line that the dealership fees were required by law. Decided to test drive a 2015 Outback before I finalized the deal on the 2011. Pictures on this car looked great, but when we got in the car, the windshield was broken and the rear view mirror was shattered. It didn't look like this in the online photos. The car shuddered when it started, but I thought it might just be my imagination. The car repeatedly shuddered when we test drove (not my imagination) and the salesman had the grace to look embarrassed. He said he'd bring it up to the sales manager immediately. I was surprised that this car was being sold by a reputable dealership (yes, still in denial). So, we went back to the lot and completed the deal for the 2011 Outback. When my daughter drove the car home, she said she heard a sound like a squealing balloon. I drove the car and didn't hear it that evening. I drove it to work the next morning and heard (and felt) it several times. Squeal sound and car lurch with loss of momentum. I reached out to the salesman to see how we could make it right, convinced a Subaru dealership would not knowingly sell a rotten car. He asked me to bring it by the shop so they could check it out. That evening, I browsed their used car inventory to see if there was a suitable replacement for the one I purchased. Lo and behold, the Outback with the terrible shudder and shattered rear view mirror is still listed for sale and, no, there are no pictures of the mirror and the windshield looks fine in the photos. So, I took the day off work and brought the car in. The mechanic determined that the wheel bearings needed to be replaced. The repair was quoted at $900 - not comped and no discount offered. I was reminded that I purchased a used car AS IS. Fine. I did purchase a used car after all. Since my check had not yet cleared, I thought maybe we could negotiate a little. I asked if we could cancel the deal and let me purchase a newer model up to $30k. Sounded fair to me - dealership sells a more expensive car, salesman gets a better commission, and I get a more reliable car. But, no. I am again reminded that I purchased a used car AS IS and there is no reversing the purchase. But, if I want to TRADE IT IN, they'll make sure I get a "good deal" for the trade in value. Really? I'd have been better off at Frank's Used Kar Korner. At least then I'd have spent less, supported a local small business, and felt no surprise when my car was less than ideal. I hope Subaru of Gwinnett enjoys my 11 grand. They could have gotten more, but now they'll never see another cent from me. And I do intend to buy more Subarus in the near and far future. AND... if you're looking at the 2015 Outback in Tungsten Metallic, don't say you weren't warned when the car blows up before your check clears. More
