Gary, It is how the fee was explained that was misleading at best. It was represented to me that the fee would be applied “against repairs, if made.” A repair was made as identified by your technician. To limit the application to the repair the customer thinks they need, first should be clearly explained. Second, if it a diagnostic fee and the diagnoses finds repairs are needed that the customer did not specify, that puts the burden of knowing what is in need of repair on the customer. We are not all mechanics but your fee is charging us as if we were. A fair business practice as applied, this is not.

I apologize for how this came across to you and that the advisor did not explain it correctly to you. It should have been explained that our repairs start out at 174.95 plus tax. This is just the starting point and the point to which we will not go above without speaking with you first. All repairs have a diagnostic aspect to them.
