I placed a $1,000 deposit to reserve a specific vehicle with an expected arrival date of June 6. It was the exact trim and options I wanted. I made it very clear to the salesperson that I would be out of town at the end of May and would not be able to take delivery early. I was explicitly assured this would not be a problem. The vehicle arrived earlier than expected—right before I was leaving for vacation. As discussed, I confirmed I would pick it up on June 1. Again, I was told that would be fine. Then things started to unravel. I received conflicting calls about the vehicle’s arrival, including an explanation from a manager that didn’t align with what I had already been told. The story kept changing, which raised concerns but I still proceeded in good faith. When I finally went to pick up the vehicle, I immediately noticed the VIN did not match the one I had reserved—and the vehicle was missing roughly $2,000 in options. It was not the same car. The salesperson initially acted as if it was equivalent, which it clearly was not. Only after pressing the issue did they admit the truth: they had sold the vehicle I placed a deposit on because I was not available to pick it up immediately. Despite knowing my situation in advance, they chose to sell my reserved vehicle and attempt to substitute a lesser one—hoping I wouldn’t notice. This is not just poor communication; it is deceptive and unethical business practice. If a dealership is willing to disregard a deposit agreement and misrepresent a vehicle, buyers should think very carefully before doing business here. More
