I brought my 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS580 in because my emissions monitors were not completing. Before my visit, I had a Georgia emissions pre-test showing zero fault codes, no misfires, no intake air leak emissions monitors were not completing. Before my visit, I had a Georgia emissions pre-test showing zero fault codes, no misfires, no intake air leaks, and no ECU faults. The dealership informed me that my vehicle had multiple misfires, intake air leakage, and an internal ECU failure before they performed their software update. However, I was not provided any supporting diagnostic documentation — no ECU fault code, no freeze-frame data, and no printed or visible Xentry diagnostic report. I was also told that “MBUSA’s cloud storage was down,” which prevented retrieval of diagnostic details. Because this did not align with my pre-service emissions report, I took the vehicle to MBT of Atlanta, a certified Mercedes-Benz Xentry facility. Their findings were completely different: • “No issue or fault code found at this time with engine control unit.” • No misfire or intake air leak faults were present • Only fault was P223C00 – Right Upstream O₂ Sensor • ECU fully operational • Their Xentry scan uploaded to the Mercedes cloud without any issues • Proper repair cost was $613, not the $3,150 ECU replacement recommended by the dealership After MBT replaced the upstream O₂ sensor, my GLS passed emissions immediately with no stored, pending, or permanent codes. As someone who has owned four GLS models, I value accuracy and transparency. The diagnostic discrepancy and lack of documentation during this visit were concerning and not reflective of the Mercedes-Benz service standard I have come to expect. More
