I’m writing this review over several days as I digest my experience buying a new Honda from Lou Sobh in Cumming, GA. Initial experience was good as our salesman was the most likeable good’ole boy you could experience buying a new Honda from Lou Sobh in Cumming, GA. Initial experience was good as our salesman was the most likeable good’ole boy you could ask for. However, Honda of America, or maybe Lou Sobh, I’m not sure which, were disappointing. We built the vehicle we wanted, with the accessories we wanted, and took our expectations to the dealership. We are surprised, and disappointed, to find we couldn’t actually buy that vehicle though. We place a deposit on a vehicle still waiting to be built but can not have our accessories installed at the factory. The salesman told us he could order the accessories we wanted, and he would have them installed before we picked up the truck. One caveat though: we had to pay labor for installation. There was no negotiation for nuisance dealer add-ons we didn’t want like the “All Season Protection Package” ($1095) or the “Theft Deterrent” ($299). I still don’t know what those are, but they cost $1400. So, we trimmed our list of accessories to just one item, put down our deposit and waited. Expectation was approximately one month to delivery. The salesman tells us he will stay in touch to update on progress. Three weeks later, I contact the salesman who hasn’t been in touch. He says 2-3 weeks, which is reasonable, and it will be ready. 4 days later, the truck is here. I ask the salesman to have the accessories installed and let me know when we can pick it up, Now, I’m told they won’t order them until the sale closes, and we have to schedule installation. This is an unwelcome surprise and not what we were originally told. Be that as it may, we make arrangements for pick up. The test drive goes well, and we move to close the sale. We spend a lengthy session going over personalization settings the salesman says he will program to the truck. Somehow much of this is overlooked. OK, the sale is closed, everybody is happy, and we drive away. We don’t get out of the parking lot before a rattle develops in the steering column and we return. We discuss the problem and say we want to leave the truck because my wife is questioning the safety of driving it. The salesman is no help. He pretty much throws up his hands and says we will have to schedule a service appointment. The whole mood of the sale changes at this point. I tell my wife I will drive the truck, and we go home. A representative from Lou Sobh called me the next morning and I’m not shy to let them know how unhappy we are. I ask for a technician to come to my work and look and see if they can find the problem which I believe is (probably) minor. They refuse saying they don’t have insurance for a technician off site. We schedule a service visit and arrange for a loaner vehicle. Drop off is easy and everybody is friendly and easy going. Lou Sobh calls a couple hours later; the problem is minor. A bolt has been left from manufacturing in the cable raceway over the steering column and is rolling around. The truck is ready for pick up and we pick up after work. Everybody is easy to work with and a higher-level manager speaks with me and is apologetic. I drive home and when I get there, I find a dash panel in the passenger floorboard that has not been re-installed. Another call to Lou Sobh. NOW they can send a technician to install the panel as the manager says, “apparently we can’t do anything right”. Fortunately, I find where the panel goes before, the tech arrives and it’s simple to install. I call back to the manager to cancel the tech and it goes to voicemail. Tech arrives and I explain and thank him for coming out. Conclusion: 1. Salesman made promises at initial visit he didn’t keep on delivery. 2. Salesman would not help with the problem we had, and an inconvenient service call was required. 3. The problem was minor, but work was not completed and required yet another follow up call. 4. Three visits in three days to buy a new truck. 5. I doubt I will buy anything from Lou Sobh again. More
