I started here at Smythe Volvo at the age of 18 as a porter. Over the last 30 years I became an Apprentice Mechanic, Mechanic, Sales Consultant, Sales Manager, General Manager, Owner then President/CEO. My favorite aspect of working at Smythe Volvo is the interaction with our customers. It's a pleasure to get to know them personally and to see them happy with our level of service. My favorite Volvo model is the 1965 P1800. It's a sporty and extremely durable vehicle that signifies the heritage of Volvo. It's silhouette can be seen in the Smythe Volvo logo. Outside of work my complete focus is on my wonderful wife and six children.

I have been purchasing and servicing cars with Smythe for the last 10 years. They have never disappointed. Today I had an unexpected emergency issue with my S60R. This is the finest dealership I have ever encountered. I just purchased our fourth Volvo from Smythe and we have had all of them serviced at Smythe exclusively. The ownership is friendly (I consider the President Kevin Flanagan a friend first) and they are rigidly honest. I purchased a 2008 CPO XC90 and the price was better than I have ever seen available at any dealership and I researched the purchase extensively. They took my 2006 Audi A8 in trade and paid me the wholesale book price as listed. We now own two Volvos, and we will continue to own only Volvos as long as Kevin and his family own the dealership. My family has two cars bought from Smythe Volvo and we have them serviced by them, too. Firstly, their sales department, headed by Kevin Flanagan, is the anti-dealer. I advocate to anybody I know who is considering a Volvo at all to call Kevin because he is on their side. So many people I know are wary of dealers (including me) but I gladly send my friends to Kevin because he is going to give you the straight scoop on the cars, how they stack up, no-pressure, and a very fair deal. That sort of knowledgeable, respectful, no-pressure approach is one big reason Smythe is one of the top dealers in the nation. Now on to service, headed by Sean Flanagan. Another Flanagan, another stand-up guy, and another first rate operation. Also, the team of service advisors are professional, patient, and upbeat, regardless who you get. There have been many occasions where they have advised me how I can more simply or less expensively address an issue, when service really needs to be done, and have also stood behind all work done. Seriously, these guys are the best. Just look at their old school building, with everybody working in the same space, parts, service, service bays, no fancy waiting room with espresso machine and you can see that it is the people that makes Smythe special, and that is the root of their success - and a great testament to the power and longevity of character. This is the second Volvo xc60 we purchased from Smythe in 2 years. Both were purchased for our teenage daughters because of the car's safety ratings. These proved to be accurate as our eldest daughter was 2 years. Both were purchased for our teenage daughters because of the car's safety ratings. These proved to be accurate as our eldest daughter was saved from a minor rear end crash-- when she stopped @ a light, things slid off the seat and she bent down to retrieve them, not realizing that her foot slipped off the brake. The car's safety feature kicked in and automatically stopped her from hitting the car in front of her-- just as advertised! Having two new drivers in NJ, where traffic is insane, provokes enough anxiety. It makes us feel much better knowing that they are in the safest car, which is also terrific in the snow! The reason we chose to purchase again from the Smythe dealership is because of their customer service. There was unfortunately a manufacturing defect with the first xc60 we purchased, certainly not Smythe's fault as it was a problem originating from the factory. Kevin Flanagan was incredibly helpful and actually ordered a whole new vehicle, exchanging it for the original which had been driven for 4 months! We have not experienced a recurrence of the problem. We were so confident that this was an isolated case, and that in the unlikely event there was another defect, the dealership would make it right, we purchased the same car for our younger daughter. Tom Rzasa, the salesperson, was pleasant, knowledgeable and did not pressure our decision making at all. This is a family owned and operated dealership. Their reputation and service are unmatched-- providing a very efficient, professional and personal experience. More
