Move to Cleveland from England 15 years ago and have worked at Metro for about 12 those. I've worked in the used car department for 6 years now and I’m well versed in our inventory and dealership process. I Have a very high level of customer service and try and respect every customer's time. I’m happy to help with any used car inquiries you may have. Cheers.

Ben - thank you for taking the time to express how you feel in this review. Please understand that there was no misleading intended at all. Our description did read "non-smoker" as the vehicle either one, had no signs of having been smoked in at the time the description was written, two, it may have been written in error, or three, it was smoked in after the description was written. Ultimately, you had the vehicle inspected and I assume there was no mention of a smoke smell and you had an opportunity to inspect it prior to taking delivery. Also, we contributed $300 to have it professionally de-odorized, and you agreed to keep it. I completely understand your frustration with this issue but I hope that you understand that we never intended to mislead you. I hope that you would consider revising your review.

Ben - I listened to our conversation as it is recorded. My words were not as you indicated...“how will you prove that somebody didn’t smoke in it AFTER it was on the lot and after we wrote the description?” Also, out of fairness, you should mention that we contributed $300 toward reconditioning cost. This is unfair..."And after all that, Dan Schneider said that if I felt that the car was still smelly from smoke and not safe for my mother in law, I was free to return the car, but only on my own dime and my own time, and I was told I would NOT be reimbursed for any reconditioning costs since the dealership "could do the same work for a fraction of the cost" And, as you noted, the car was in our inventory for several months and may very well have been smoked in after the description was written. The obstacle was the space between us, Ben. We held up paperwork, titling, taxes, and compensation to Mike so that you may return the vehicle. Our intention was to make this right for you. After the reconditioning, you agreed to keep the vehicle. Please understand, we had no intention of misleading you. You were given the option of returning the vehicle. We did contribute $300 toward reconditioning. Is there something more we could have done?

Disappointedcustomer responded

So...do you believe you proposed something different? Something like you were understanding that the car didn't live up to description, your ad was misleading, and you'd arrange to take the car back yourself? Nope. Didn't happen. This was all resolved in the end because I of my own volition presented you with a potential solution and took a chance on what the reconditioning of the vehicle might be able to accomplish, on my own dime, and on my own time. And yes, you certainly did state that if I was to return the vehicle you would not reimburse that (you tried to walk that back later in the conversation, but it was already out there). I specifically wanted to get that spelled out with you in advance of going to the reconditioning step. And if you weren't going to pay for my reconditioning effort, you certainly weren't going to cover the cost of a one-way rental to bring your car back. The obstacle was not simply the distance between us. It was the distrust created by your false advertising (you can keep claiming it was an "error," but ultimately you're responsible for your own product and the statements made in how you market it). I believe it when you say you had no intention of misleading. I do. But it doesn't mean it didn't happen. And ultimately it was the nonchalance at which you handled the situation when I, your customer, presented you with a real issue, where the wheels started to fall off (no pun intended). You didn't own the problem, you immediately started to backpedal. Feel free to publish in this thread the exact audio of our interaction, if you have it. I may not have remembered your words verbatim, but it was perfectly clear what you were saying. Frankly, when I shared your statement with two of my friends who own dealerships themselves, they were shocked at how distasteful of an excuse that was - inventing a potential yet far-fetched scenario like that, on the fly. They actually host a podcast on used car sales topics. They featured this scenario in a segment related to Dealer Honesty and Ethics.
