Loved sales dept, but finance was a nightmare My experience with the finance dept was very different from my experience with the sales team, which was the last thing I expected from my first exper My experience with the finance dept was very different from my experience with the sales team, which was the last thing I expected from my first experience with a dealership purchase. The sales team was very straightforward but the finance dept tried to pull a bunch of stuff over on me. Victor offered a 7% APR, which is ludicrous, esp given that I walked in with 3.69% from a 3rd party. He tried repeatedly to refute that I even had that rate through Suntrust, until I pulled up the confirmation in writing. To "match" it, he offered 5%, then 3.99% saying "it's only $2 more a month". Why would I pay you more than a rate I already have? After leaving the room he returned with a matched rate. Then he presented the monthly payment as a "base" payment and insisted I had to choose between 3 different types of warranty payments. Not phrased as "if you are interested" but as though it was required. After many insistences on my part he relented and said I "could just do the base pay"- which is literally my legal obligation. I would feel very bad for anyone else in that situation because I was made to feel that I had no other choice but to take a higher rate and then a warranty I didn't need (my car is still under warranty and I have AAA). I could easily see someone paying $50-$100 more per month if they weren't very familiar with financing structures. It felt like the other shoe had dropped and I landed in the used car dealer experience everyone hears about where they use their experience not to guide you to a good deal but to swindle you. Come prepared with 3rd party financing and knowledge about your warranty options and needs before you close the deal. More
