Being aware of the note below may better prepare YOU in the event you go into Herb Chambers BMW of Boston looking for a new car. My wife and I are in the market for a new car, and had decided on an X1. We visited their store and was courteously received by Melissa, the General Manager who arranged for us to be seen by a sales person. We quickly moved the conversation to a decision point of choosing for a '21 unit for ~$41K or a '22 unit for ~$45K. They were similar cars, and while documents were printed and reviewed my wife and I made our decision to go with the '22. As we're getting into the final steps, and monthly payments are being figured out, the numbers changed... with both units going up in prices between $2-3,000. The typical rationale was used... "higher demand..." "supply chain issues..." "no longer observing MSRP..." etc. etc. My wife and I both felt diminished by this exchange. The old "used car salesman" routine being used "live" on us. We were embarrassed. I do not know if this was unethical, but it was certainly disrespectful. Awful feeling. And I'm not sure I would put this at the feet of the salesperson... they work in a location that appears to encourage this tactic. Maybe this was a "one time thing".... if so, dang' it... what a way to start the year. More
