In the early 60’s, the owners of a local garage received a postcard announcing the production of a new four-wheel drive vehicle. At the time, the automotive industry was producing only one other vehicle in this category, so the owners thought this might be a good opportunity to introduce a new four-wheel drive vehicle that they would be able to sell as well as service. The postcard was answered and the response was the founding of the first Toyota dealership in New England and the beginning of what has become a very successful endeavor for Dominic Galardi, Anthony Buglione and A-1 Toyota.
The history of A-1 Service began before this. In January of 1951, Dom joined his father-in-law, Tony Buglione in a partnership that included a gas station and used cars. The station was located on the corner of Olive Street and St. John in New Haven.
In the late 1950’s, a new highway system was breaking through the neighborhood, people started moving to the suburbs, and with the limited space they had already outgrown, A-1 looked for a new location.
The new site they chose was in East Haven. The partnership grew to include Dominic’s brother, Andrew.
Their new location, occupying a city block on Main Street and the sign reading A-1 Auto Service, Inc., became a landmark for many.
In 1963, A-1 completed the building of the first Toyota showroom on the East Coast. In 1966, just three years after opening their dealership, A-1 became the second largest Toyota dealership in the country. Toyota’s line-up featured only two vehicles at the time, the four-wheel drive Land Cruiser and one of the first economy cars, the Tiara.
Over the years, A-1 Toyota continued to grow and in 1980 moved to their current location on Amity Road in New Haven adding the Dodge franchise that dueled with Toyota until 1990.

400 Miles to buy a car...well worth it! My family and I used to live in CT and started buying our cars from A1, we moved to Virginia many years ago and have still bought our cars from A1! Due to the great customer service we have received and continue to receive we decide to make the 400+ mile drive from VA to CT everytime we need a car. Frank Crisafi is always answering my calls or emails right away and so pleasant to deal with, I can call him with anything and he always remembers me. Carlos in finance is great too! He always explains everything clearly and takes care of any concerns I have. This time we ended up with Eddie as we needed a new Sales person, he was a pleasure to deal with as well. More

Positive experience with A1 Toyota I recently leased a Rav4 Toyota from A1 Toyota. I was very pleased with the experience overall. My salesperson, Quincy Smith, was very professional, I recently leased a Rav4 Toyota from A1 Toyota. I was very pleased with the experience overall. My salesperson, Quincy Smith, was very professional, courteous and helpful. He answered all my questions and was quite knowledgable regarding all aspects of the vehicle, leasing options, etc. He listened to my questions and concerns, understood my timeline, and did not pressure me with the "hard sell" which I really respected. Quicy spent a good amount of time familiarizing me with the car when it was delivered, and was very helpful from start to finish. Paul Wright in Finance was also very helpful and easy to work with. This is the second vehicle I have leased from A-1 and I will recommend the dealership to my friends. More

It was in need of some very costly repair and I knew that I would have to get something soon as my mileage was over 266,000) We told Kevin what we needed, over the phone. When we got there he had a car waiting for us to test drive. It was exactly what we describe to him over the phone. He was extremely knowledgeable about the car and its features. He explained everything about the car, finances, tech, and all the benefits of buying from A-1.
