The worst car buying experience of my life---- by a mile, and I have bought lots of new cars. Actually, the worst experience buying anything. I did the paperwork to buy a new 2023 BMW 530i from this dealersh and I have bought lots of new cars. Actually, the worst experience buying anything. I did the paperwork to buy a new 2023 BMW 530i from this dealership a couple of weeks prior, had to wait for it to come in, had signed the paperwork, gave them my check. Very nice salesperson. Easy cash sale. After everything was signed and I was ready to go, a nameless "sales manager" came over to tell me that he had decided that I could not drive the car off the lot, would not be able to until my check cleared, that would not be until sometime the following week. I had driven quite a far distance to pick up the car, they had my deposit, my driver's license, my insurance, all my personal information far in advance of my visit to get the car. After the "sales manager" said that I could not leave with the car because of potential "fraud," I could not do business with them. Accuse a customer of fraud because they are paying with a check? A local Bank of America check? I bought a Ford Explorer just a few months earlier from a Ford dealer, same thing, all cash, gave them my check, drove off with my new SUV, never the slightest issue. Same thing with the Mercedes dealer when I bought a new car there with a check. Yikes. I tore up my check and left Silver Spring BMW without the car, never to return. I have never had a business refuse my check. They could have called the bank if they doubted that the money was there. Nope. Had they told me any of this in advance, I would not have signed to buy the car from them. Went to Passport BMW, was treated great there. Bought a new BMW there, almost exactly the same car, even got a better price. A great buying experience at Passport. Thank you Passport, Shame on you Silver Spring BMW. More
