*IF YOU'RE NOT WHITE and buying a car DEFINITELY READ THIS* I had gone in with the intention of trading in my 4Runner to get a new highlander for myself and a new RAV4. We waited almost 2 weeks for THIS* I had gone in with the intention of trading in my 4Runner to get a new highlander for myself and a new RAV4. We waited almost 2 weeks for the RAV4 to arrive and the highlander arriving on the 6/14. We had put our name down and had filled out a credit app so they knew we were serious. We already had our financing ready through one of their partners (I could've have paid cash but with rates so low why would I?) and we were ready to start the paperwork. Then I come to find out that they have to run our credit when I asked why if we already have our own financing they told me about a "red flag" law * important note* on 5/8 I bought a new RAV4 for my mom in San Jose and went in with my financing ready and no credit check was needed. Come to find out that the red flag law that they were so adamant about is designed to detect and prevent identify theft when they suspect the information they're getting doesn't add up (look up red flag rule compliance). Now I'm sure if I had gone in there and my name was let's say John or James I'm more than certain they didn't need to run my credit. Then he started talking about federal regulation called OFAC which relates to foreign individuals who might be on the FBIs or some govt list (which is only required to be run when an individual is not a US citizen since OFAC Literally stands for officer of foreign asset control) to avoid funding of terrorist...having been in the investment/Finance for 17 years I know he's just blowing smoke up my A*# and is nothing but a xxxx racist. Their racism also showed when I test drove the said RAV4 and they had their little sales rep follow me in his car as I was trying to see what noise my wife was talking about. He probably didn't believe that 2 brown people would actually qualify to buy 2 new cars. In the past decade I have traded / bought a new car every few years so I know what dealers can/should do and what they can't/shouldn't. They try to xxxxxxxx their way so they can try to upsell or sell you one of their loans. Just like when they try to "talk numbers" when I over and over told them I don't need to talk numbers or worry about payments, I know what I want and have. It was my mistake that I did not take my check book to be able to pay cash but somehow the same rules of "identity theft" / red flag didn't apply to that when I can be easily impersonating someone and have used their checks. So I know it was bullsh#% and his way of trying to make money off the loan or trying to get me a loan through one of their higher paying lenders (Incase you didn't know dealers make money off your loans and whatever rate they tell you, they are making 2% of that as a kick back so they can lower that rate by the said 2%) Now I'm sure their public relations rep is going to respond with "I'm sorry for your experience" because that's her job description but please save your breath. PR rep: Incase you want to get to the bottom of this before the generic response it was "John" the sales Manager (Not John Thorpe who I dealt with earlier in the day and he was a decent human being) who actually does not show on your website as a sales manager so not sure exactly who he was. while you're at it you should ask if he talks to every customer as if he's in a strip club when indicate "cash" doing the cash motion "making it rain" a complete A#* and unprofessional. I believe where we were standing under one of the cameras so I'm sure you can pull up the video of him making that motion. Also, is it really your policy to have a customer followed on a test drive after you've taken copies of their IDs? Because no other dealership we've gone to gas done that. Also, how are you following county guidelines of social distancing when your sales rep kept wanting to get in the car for the test drive? I will find out who / which "family" owns this dealership through the SECRETARY OF STATE or CITY OF Elk Grove and get in contact and will follow up since they claim to be family owned More
