Been going to Honda of Ames since the late 80's and just left there yesterday after having my first service done on my new 2020 Honda Accord. Kyle who did my service did a wonderful job as he and others who left there yesterday after having my first service done on my new 2020 Honda Accord. Kyle who did my service did a wonderful job as he and others who have worked on my former cars that I also purchased from Honda of Ames are still here. Mel, who is service manager, has been at Honda of Ames since I started going and buying my first 1990 Honda Accord DX. Have seen a lot of guys come and go but they still have one hell of a team to please the customers. More

I very rarely leave reviews, but experience here was so awful that I wanted to share to warn others. Worst car buying experience and customer service I have ever experienced. My wife & I test drove a Ni awful that I wanted to share to warn others. Worst car buying experience and customer service I have ever experienced. My wife & I test drove a Nissan Rogue that she liked, and other local dealers didn’t have them in stock. The negotiation process was BRUTAL, they didn’t offer us fair market value for trade-in, and told us not to trust KBB or other trade-in value services because their prices are inflated right now. Ended up getting them up a bit in price, but they still were under market value compared to all the figures I ran so our numbers were still off. They told us the permaplate was required on the Nissan and they already installed it on the vehicle so it would be an extra $1,000+. We told them our bottom line numbers and where our monthly payments needed to be and after a couple times of the salesman running back and forth checking numbers, we couldn’t come to an agreement. All they did was throw in the permaplate and floor mats saying it was $1,400 value which was a joke and would never give us straight answers to our questions and would just keep trying to move the sale forward. Our sales guy ran back one last time and came out saying his manager told him they will do what it takes to meet our numbers and they weren’t going to let us walk being so close, looked me, my wife & 3 year old daughter dead in our eyes and shook my hand saying they’ll make it work for us. After going through the credit and some paperwork, all was good but we sat around for an hour and a half not knowing what was going on, finally he came back and said they have all the financing finished and the car detailed. When we sat down to sign off, they told us sorry we were not able to come down any more, and in fact the payments were a couple dollars HIGHER than they told us. Completely lied to our face to close the deal. Super pissed that they treat customers like that. Shame on me for not getting the end number in writing first, but that is flat out unethical knowingly lying to your face when they knew dang well they were not going to meet our final numbers. The entire process took so long we were there for 4 hours- half the time just sitting around waiting. It is now 2 weeks past the sale, the 10 day period on the pay off has passed, so we need to get all of that information for them again. Not only are we paying on our new car now, but still paying interest on the car we traded in and we have to make another payment on it because tasks like this aren’t handled in a timely manner. Unless they have a specific vehicle you like that no one else has- do not give this place your business. They could care less about the customer. Would give them negative stars if I could. The management and business operations at this place is awful. Horrible experience & will not be returning to this business ever again. More
