I’ve had multiple experiences with Jim Butler Chevrolet in their service department, each one worse than the one before. This time was the last straw for me. I knew I should have taken my 2015 Chevy Eq in their service department, each one worse than the one before. This time was the last straw for me. I knew I should have taken my 2015 Chevy Equinox elsewhere, but it was too late, I had to take it somewhere asap (car wouldn’t start without a jump and it was really riding rough, rotten egg smell, and the “service power steering” flashed across my dashboard that morning) and since I’d bought and had my warranty through Jim Butler, I didn’t think it would be big of a pain as it usually is. I came in on Tuesday afternoon with my car. I knew it needed a new battery so I knew that was coming (along with the $100 deductible fee for my warranty coverage). I priced some batteries online and was expecting anywhere from $80-$120 for a battery. But besides that, I knew I had pretty extensive warranty so that would cover just about anything else it might need. Total I was expecting to be out was $200-$240 so I was taken aback when David K, the guy who “helped” me gave a call a week later saying that total is going to be about $400 for nothing but a new battery and battery terminal ($12-$30 part). First of all, I took it in on Tuesday afternoon, the first time I heard from anyone about how my car was doing was Friday evening. That’s a long time considering all they “diagnosed” was that it needed a new battery. I understand they knew I had rental coverage and put me on the back-burner. I only have coverage for up to 6 days with my warranty though (which was repeated to me multiple times on the day I needed to pick it up) so I felt like they took it for granted that I had a few days if I needed it. But what if I didn’t have that and needed to leave with my car that day? Next the price discrepancy which still confuses me a great deal. I guess they powder-coated my new battery in 24-karat gold before installing it because they really gouged me with it. They told me that once they replaced the old battery that nothing was popping up with the power steering, it was starting up fine (obviously.. thanks, new battery) the smell had gone away and everything was working as it should. My thoughts were, “Great! All it needed was a new battery!” The way David explained it to me, THAT was the reason I was so over-charged. He definitely seemed like he looked at me as though I didn’t know anything about cars by the way he was talking to me and throwing around random car jargon. But basically, what I got out of it was because my car got a new battery, and nothing else was wrong with it, they were going to charge me $155 more because they had to do their “due diligence” in checking out the vehicle to make sure it was good to go and since there was nothing else wrong the, the warranty company wasn’t going to pay anything more and they had to foot someone with the bill. But he was sure to tell me that my warranty had saved me about $1000+ in parts and labor. What? How? Where do you get that? I did not get an itemized invoice with anything about another $1000+ in parts or labor and if that work was done to my car, whether or not I had to pay for it, I should have gotten paperwork stating what was done. Nevgot that. By the end of this nightmare I was just so ready to be out of there and never come back. And if I had to hear him say “due diligence” one more time I was going to come unglued and it wouldn’t be pretty. Susan G. More
