Fast forward 2 days. Purchase/negotiations go well, but are followed by a 3 hour debacle in the finance office (the first sign of things to come. Kudos to Junid for getting the deal back on track). We agree on a Tuesday (next day) pickup, with a Wednesday backup. I activate insurance on Tuesday afternoon, and a Wednesday pickup is set. I receive a text from Albrecht on Wednesday saying that insurance are “taking their sweet time” returning the paperwork, but everything should be ready on Thursday. This is ok with me, as Thursday is my day off, but I note that I can’t push it any later than that. Thursday morning, I have heard nothing from Albrecht, so I wait a couple hours and text them. I’m told that they’ve been on the phone with insurance trying to get the car registered, but nothing has happened. It’s going to be a Friday pickup now. I’m working a long shift on Friday, but the salesman says he’ll stay late if needed. I appreciate his flexibility. Friday comes, and there’s no progress. At work, I decide to call insurance myself and see what I can do to help. “Oh!” they say, “The dealership just has a typo on the RTA form. We’ve been waiting for them to change it. Once they do we’ll send the corrected paperwork right back over.” This call took less than 5 minutes. I get on the phone with Albrecht and update them. My insurance policy takes effect the following day, which is a holiday weekend (Albrecht isn’t open). A Monday pickup is arranged. I explain that, once again, I’m working, and the only way I can pick the car up is if I come at 8pm, despite the dealership closing at 7. I’m assured that this is okay. The car will be ready to pick up. I call in some favors and get a ride to Albrecht Monday night. When I arrive, the building is locked, and the lights are off. I start knocking. Nothing. Knock some more. Text my salesman. Nothing. Text again. Knock more. Nothing. After a while, I see Junid walking around. He’s working late. He sees me waving and lets me in. He wasn’t told that I was coming, but we chat for a few minutes and then he calls a friend and gets my salesman’s cell number. I hear the salesman say, “Oh yeah, the keys are [indecipherable].” Junid sighs, finds the keys, and takes me to the car. To our (or at least his) surprise, we find that the gas tank is empty. Junid apologizes profusely and locates a gas card. We drive to the gas station together, while my ride waits at the dealership. When we get back, another salesperson is there. Evidently some other employees thought I was breaking into the building, so she came to check me out. Nobody told her, or them, that I was picking up a car either. Since scheduling my pickup, I’ve heard nothing from Albrecht (except, ironically, this request to review my purchase). No apology, no explanation for why I was left to knock on windows and hope for the best. I’ve reached out to the general manager for clarification, but 2 weeks on, I can’t seem to get him on the phone. At this point, I’m really disappointed in Albrecht. Junid was clutch. He is great, and works really hard. But despite everybody’s best efforts he can’t run that dealership by himself. If you’re thinking of buying a Subaru, honestly, drive a few more miles and go to Ira. I almost went there, and although they weren’t as friendly as Albrecht, but they seem to run a solid business. If you do decide to buy your car at Albrecht, get ready for a wild ride, and make sure you clear your schedule. More
