Incompetent service expertise on older Mercedes Upon the recommendation of a friend, I brought my 1994 E420 for service: the engine did not run reliably, did not accelerate properly, and occasionall Upon the recommendation of a friend, I brought my 1994 E420 for service: the engine did not run reliably, did not accelerate properly, and occasionally at idling the engine would stop running. Until the summer of 2017 the car never had problems, and I took very good care of it. The old Mercedes still looks very well and drove "like new". My regular mechanic ran out of possible solutions to my erratic problem, and I opted to consult a Mercedes dealership as an "expert". I was promised that they have people experienced in these older models and that they can help me. The car arrived at the dealership on August 22, 2017, and today, on September 21, is still in the shop. They tried unsuccessfully to diagnose the cause of the engine' s issues, and a few days ago I was informed that a Long Island dealership "expert" would be consulted. It does not speak for a service department when "an expert" has to be consulted after 4 weeks of no problem solution. What is also discerning is the lack of timely communication back to me about the status of my car. What a waste of time! I know (as a layman, nevertheless competent to understand automotive technology) that the issues of my car are not unique and that they can be repaired, provided someone knows what to do and trace the problem systematically! More

Unresponsive and unprofessional sales experience I identified a car of potential interest via the Internet, and reached out to get more information and to request photos. At that point, I was put in touch with Ami, who indicated that I should simply use the online MB configurator to get an accurate representation of the car, even though the configurator doesn't show top-down images (this was a convertible), and displays only a limited set of angles and lighting conditions. I also communicated a prospective deal I had with another dealer, which Ami indicated Rallye could match. While photos would've been preferred, I nonetheless planned to take a trip to the dealership to see the car, in person. While in transit, Ami contacted me to indicate that the car would have to be brought over from the warehouse and that it would take 4 hours to do so. I therefore turned around, intending to reschedule. About 30 minutes later, I received another outreach indicating that the car was now at the dealership...so, I turned around, again. Upon arriving, the facility was nice and Ami was pleasant enough. We previewed the car, while Ami sought to have a preowned manager assess the value of my trade. We then sat down to review numbers, assuming the discounts I had previously communicated. The trade value came in lower than anyone else (lower than a wholesaler, in fact), so I insisted that Rallye remain consistent with the value provided by other dealers. Ami reluctantly agreed. I left, noting that I would consider the color combo and further review the numbers when I arrived home. Upon review, I subsequently raised some reasonable questions about dealership and registration fees, which I thought seemed high. After several days of no response, and a few reminder emails on my part, Ami finally replied that, "after further review, we're unable to move forward with this deal". There was no further explanation. I certainly understand that the deal terms I negotiated were aggressive and that not all dealers would necessarily accept them. I was, however, up front about the terms. In my experience, having purchased many premium cars, the dealers have always been responsive, cordial and professional, even if the deal doesn't materialize. Unfortunately, that was not the case, here. I subsequently communicated my experience with a business development manager, who was apologetic and indicated that she would make her managers aware of the situation to see if it could be remedied. I have yet to hear anything back. More
