I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with the service department at Barlow Woodbury, NJ
I brought in my 2018 Buick Encore with a temperature issue and check engine light. I was initially quoted around $800–$900 for repairs, which I reluctantly agreed to. When I picked up the car, I was charged $977 and the car was STILL not running properly, with the check engine light still on. This was never communicated to me before pickup.
I had to bring the car back again, and after keeping it for several more days, I was told a new issue (camshaft) was found and that it would be “around $400,” with labor supposedly waived. At no point was I clearly told the full updated total or asked to approve a revised estimate.
When I arrived to pick up my car, I was shocked to be handed a bill for $1,646. I was told I had “approved it,” which is completely untrue. After arguing for 20 minutes, they reduced it slightly, but I still ended up paying about $1,300 total.
On top of that, I was pushed to purchase additional items like wipers, spark plugs, and even received an oil change I did not need.
This experience felt dishonest and disorganized. There was a complete lack of transparency, poor communication, and I never felt like I was given clear choices or accurate pricing before work was done.
I understand repairs cost money but no one should be hit with hundreds of dollars in unexpected charges without clear approval. I will not be returning and would not recommend this service department to others.
