Many car salesmen get a bad rap for pushing and pulling - StringertheGreat
Many car salesmen get a bad rap for pushing and pulling clients into the dealership with the hope of feeding the dealerships bottom line at the expense, and sanity, of the client. I was worried I would get that experience at Wilsonville Toyota, especially since this was my first car I would be financing, and that my car acumen was shoddy at best.
Cole Terry is the pinnacle of how every car salesman should be, and I don't ever say this lightly. I had this kid in a few of my classes at UO and already knew from the get go how strong his work ethic is.
The difference between Cole and your typical car salesman is that he's driven, not desperate. He explained from the outset that the price of the car is literally the best deal I'd be getting in the market area. And he was absolutely right. The 2022 Toyota Corolla I ended up financing was originally marked at 24k. It was on the lot at 18k. There was no need to haggle on price because the market conditions and dealership already set it at the best price possible.
As for Cole, he presented a wide variety of choices with the budget I gave him, and he certainly didn't disappoint. From a 2011 scion to a 2016 carry, I was stunned how many options I had. It really did feel like Christmas to me, and I haven't had a good one in a minute.
When we got to the paperwork, I was nervous about meeting the "finance guy" most dealerships get a bad wrap for. "The man upstairs" as they say. When I asked Cole when I'd meet him, he said "you're talking to him now" with a smile. From there it was a breeze. I got a sweet rate as a first time, 23 year old csr buyer. A 6.5% APR 6 year car loan through OnPoint. I work at BofA and wanted to get a loan through them, but it actually turned out that OnPoint's loan was simply the better option, reinforcing the fact that you really do get the best price possible on not just the car but the loan as well.
Cole may seem young, but he's super confident in his craft. He's not pushy one bit, and gives you time to make those phone calls to family and friends. He even took a few follow up calls and texts when I came back with questions... Now I'm not recommending him because I shared classes with him. I'm recommending him because he really is the best car salesman I could've asked for when I was there. Keep doing what your doing Terry and you'll be running the dealership in no time!
