Toyota of Scranton was great to us from start to finish even with the restraints of quarantine. Especially Richard and Jenna in finance they really worked with us via calls and emailing most of the paperwo even with the restraints of quarantine. Especially Richard and Jenna in finance they really worked with us via calls and emailing most of the paperwork answering my many questions. When we got there to pick up the car and finish the paperwork they had everything ready. We weren't in the office more than 5 minutes for the last few signatures. Nick reviewed all of the features with us before we left and we were off with our awesome new Toyota Corolla! We absolutely love it! More

I drove past the dealership March 7th and saw that they had a truck I had been looking for. I stopped and looked at it a bit. Sticker was $57,457. Two days later, I went online to double check the add on had a truck I had been looking for. I stopped and looked at it a bit. Sticker was $57,457. Two days later, I went online to double check the add on accessories to see if it had a specific add on I was looking for and noticed there was a dealer discount of $3,131 bringing the price down to $54,336. I kept my eye on it (as well as other dealers) and just when I was going to stop by, the shut down happened. I filled out an online form to be contacted and on 4/24 I received a text message from “Brian”. He had stated online sales were reopened and wanted to know if I was still interested. I told him I was. We had texted back and forth a couple of times. On 5/6, I texted him that I would like a price on the truck do start discussing financing, options etc. I heard nothing back. I texted again on 5/15 asking if he was able to get me a price. Still nothing (to this day!). My wife called to see if the truck was still available. The person who answered the phone, “Joe”, said that the truck was still available. She asked for a price and he stated it was $62,500. She asked for clarification as we know the sticker price was $57,457. He stated it was dealer markup due to demand. (There are over 100 of these vehicles in my search parameters today...doesn’t sound like high demand to me...). He was insanely abrupt and completely unfriendly. Let me make clear that Scranton is NOT the only dealership that does this, so it’s not part of my negative review of this dealer per se. Some upcharge, some keep the MSRP and some do dealer discounts of over $3K. After calling several dealers and putting up with other shady, bait and switch tactics amongst other “miscommunications” (self admitted, flat out lies) I had two dealers I had been talking to to see if a deal could be figured out. Yesterday morning, I received a call from Nick at Scranton. He asked if I was still interested. I told him I had been working with a couple of other dealers but I was still open to other offers. He texted me to state that “Andrew” was going “waive the $5k upcharge” which they don’t normally budge on because they usually sell even with the $5k upcharge. Gee...thanks....🙄. An added cost for no reason on a truck you’re telling me you sell a lot of and people gladly pay extra for that is still on your lot at least 3 months later....make sense to you? Yeah, me neither.... He sent over the worksheet he had received from Andrew showing payment ranges, price, tax, other fees etc. The price on the sheet matched what I was quoted on the phone. $51,659. This new, much lower price didn’t set off bells and whistles because this was around the number I was given by a couple of other dealers who didn’t upcharge their vehicles. Plus all other charges, tax etc and subtracting the severely lowballed trade in ($2500-$3000 less than KBB) brought the total to $55,775.36. I asked if he could have his finance guy give me a call. Nick said “No problem” a few minutes later “Joe” calls back and says he made a mistake and sent the wrong price sheet over. The sheet he sent was for a 4 Runner and that the Tundra would be $6K more. He claimed to be a Sales Manager....how does a Sales Manager not confirm what he is sending to a Sales Rep? Unfortunately for this dealership, the last time I heard a similar song and dance (two days prior) regarding a price quote, the Manager admitted that I pointed an issue out to him and that they changed the price because of their error rather than honor their misquote. He offered a whopping 30% off of any additional accessories I would like. ($600ish vs. his $3500 mistake). What he did was textbook false advertising but at least he attempted to apologize and resolve the issue he created...Not Joe! I ended up hanging up on him. It was clear there was no attempt to negotiate how we could possibly come up with a solution, meet half way...anything. If you can own up to the mess up, you should be able to fix it too. It’s called customer service. I was a Client Relations Manager for a major company with over 500 employees for over 10 years. I was a small business owner. If my staff misquoted someone, I did my best to keep the relationship good with the client, and spoke to the employee on the back end. I probably would have called me back to see if I could offer some kind of compromise. NOPE. I wasn’t expecting an all out butt-kissing, but their lack to care, or make things right, tells me they lack insanely basic customer service skills, and if I made a purchase and needed something down the road, they would be sitting behind their desk with their feet up, counting money and laughing, and listening to the phone just ring. That’s NOT any business I would fork $60K+ over to. Neither should you. More
