Avoid Tim Fowler, Ask for Jana Baker
If you’re considering buying from Tomball Ford, here’s my honest advice: avoid Tim Fowler at all costs, ask for Jana Baker, and come with your own pre-approved rate from a local credit union. The finance manager, Will Clunn, was unhelpful and didn’t put in any real effort to get me a competitive rate—I refinanced the very next morning at 1.26% lower.
Let me explain.
I drove over 45 minutes to Tomball Ford on Friday evening, March 27th, because they had the inventory I wanted. My credit union, Shell Federal, listed Tim Fowler as their “no-hassle” dealer representative, so I reached out to him days in advance via email—letting him know exactly which cars I wanted to see and when I’d arrive. He never responded. Not even to let someone else know I was coming.
When I arrived around 5 PM, I waited over 20 minutes only to be told Tim wasn’t in and wouldn’t be available until the next day. Frustrated, I started looking at the two vehicles on the showroom floor myself. That’s when Jana Baker walked over and asked if she could help. She was knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely helpful—no hard sell.
I explained that Tim had ignored my messages, and Jana said she often helped Tim’s customers when he was out. Since we had no loyalty to someone who couldn’t bother to reply, we worked with her. We were trading in a 2016 Porsche Cayenne (which had been a nightmare for parts) and wanted something fun and American-made. I was considering the Mustang Dark Horse and a Corvette.
Jana walked us through the Mustang in detail, then voluntarily called their sister Chevy dealership in Conroe to arrange for us to see a Corvette. She didn’t pressure us at all—she even connected us directly with the Chevy sales manager for the best pricing if we went that route. If this review were just about Jana, she’d get an easy 5 stars.
But I can’t give Tomball Ford 5 stars because of Tim Fowler’s complete disregard and finance manager Will Clunn’s incompetence.
I decided on the Mustang and came back that Monday to finalize the deal. I had already done the credit check Saturday morning. My credit score is in the 850 range, and my credit union had pre-approved me at 4.49% for 5 years—the same credit union that sent me to Tomball Ford. So you can imagine my shock when Will Clunn spent forever trying to sell me extended warranties and other add-ons, then told me the best he could do was 5.76% through Ford Credit for 5 years.
When I asked why, he just said it was the best they could get. I was exhausted and went ahead with the deal—but I went straight to my credit union the next morning. By 8 AM, I had refinanced the car I’d bought just 12 hours earlier at 4.49%.
Bottom line:
✅ Ask for Jana Baker – she’s great.
❌ Avoid Tim Fowler – unresponsive and unprofessional.
❌ Avoid trusting Will Clunn – get your own financing first.
Bring your own pre-approved rate from a nearby credit union, or you’ll likely overpay.
