I don’t know for sure yet, but the “nonstandard” way they handled the NY State Drive Clean rebate has all the appearance of a scam to defraud a government agency, by denying me the rebate and then collecting handled the NY State Drive Clean rebate has all the appearance of a scam to defraud a government agency, by denying me the rebate and then collecting from NY State anyhow. I really hope it’s not a scam because I’d like to be able to believe these are honest decent people. They told me I could not get the rebate taken off the price of the car, but if I signed the rebate application forms they would repay me later. In order to apply for the rebate, they had me sign forms which created the appearance that I had already received the rebate. I DID NOT EVER receive the rebate. They produced a revised sale document some time after the sale which appeared to indicate that I had paid $1,000.00 less than I had actually paid, and listed the rebate among the items as if I had already received it. They then sent NY State a fraudulent sale document which showed that I was given the rebate and paid $1,000 LESS than I actually paid. If DCH Toyota does end up sending me the rebate amount as promised then perhaps it’s not a scam, but I’m still appalled that they would risk creating such an appearance. To erode customer trust for absolutely nothing seems pointlessly stupid. And if it is a scam, then to so adversely affect customer impression for so paltry a sum is almost as stupid. Now, every time I look at the car I feel sick. American consumers don’t expect a major brand like Toyota to engage in this sort of criminality, or to condone dealerships that do. More
