Caution to those entrusting your vehicle to the Ventura Toyota Service Department. On Monday morning, July 20th, I brought in my truck for a scheduled service appointment for periodic maintenance and a Toyota Service Department. On Monday morning, July 20th, I brought in my truck for a scheduled service appointment for periodic maintenance and a multi-point inspection. I did not receive a call or notification that my vehicle was ready for pickup, so it stayed overnight. The next morning, July 21st, I initiated calls to the service department to ask about the status of my vehicle, getting transferred to my service advisor's voicemail. After further calling, I am connected to the service manager after learning that my service advisor is not in today, and then learn that my vehicle has been ready for pickup. After arriving at the dealership and paying for services, I go with my keys to the back lot behind the service office where my truck was parked. When I open my driver's side door, I notice the glove box is open, and a stray working glove that was originally in my door compartment is on the floor. The other glove of the pair is missing, along with another set of gloves that were in the same location. I then notice additional items are missing that were originally in my glove box, the center console, and the sunglasses compartment in the ceiling. 5 out of 8 compartments in my center console are cleaned out and missing items/tools. The tray that sat above these compartments is missing, along with its items (See photos). I immediately notify service staff. I speak with the service manager and the service technician and point out the items missing from my vehicle. During this conversation and inspection, I remember that there was an Apple AirTag in the tray of my center console. I look for the location on my phone and it is last seen a few blocks down the road. I wrap up the conversation with the service manager and technician; I am told that the Service Director will be notified and will contact me. I drive to the vicinity of where the AirTag was last seen, after searching I find the AirTag itself ditched in a parking lot. I have since spoken with the Service Director, the General Manager, and have filed a police report about the theft. Some additional things to note: -There is no surveillance equipment overlooking the lot where customer vehicles are parked after service. - There was no sign of forced entry into the vehicle, which is potentially indicative of 2 things: 1) There is an integrity issue with staff and/or employees who had access to the vehicle's keys or the interior of the vehicle. or 2) The vehicle failed to be secured/locked while under their possession, allowing another party to steal from my truck within that timeframe. Regardless of any speculation, Ventura Toyota failed to provide a secure service. My vehicle, under their care and supervision, had many items looted and stolen from storage compartments. Update: I am currently in contact with management staff and am hopeful that Ventura Toyota and I can come to an appropriate resolution for this incident. More
