Friendly service and they got the problem presented fixed. The service manager was great too! She was genuinely interested in identifying my issues. Somehow my car’s computer got messed up though. I always trusted Smythe service but I’ve lost all confidence after this visit. I brought in my car because it had spit out a limp mode message (Reduced Engine Performance) twice. The car stalled on confidence after this visit. I brought in my car because it had spit out a limp mode message (Reduced Engine Performance) twice. The car stalled once. Other than that it ran fine but I wanted to get it checked. Mark was very polite and professional. But he explained that the code the car threw (P023400) meant the turbo system needed to be replaced. Now, that certainly could be one cause. However when I asked about all the common issues that could also cause this code (waste-gate, actuator, dirty throttle body, boost/MAP sensors, solenoid), that was all waved off as “It’s the turbo; that's why you have no acceleration.” I explained, as I had when I dropped the car off that I was no experiencing any acceleration issues. I was driving on highways and local, and acceleration and RPMs seemed normal. Smythe was adamant it was the turbo a d quoted me over $5,000 including tax! Mark was sympathetic and very polite and understanding but stated the turbo had “a nasty leak.” I paid about $245 diagnostic fee and took my car. I went to my local mechanic and explained I brought the car to a dealer as I thought their diagnostics could pinpoint the cause. He checked the car and repaired it. There was a vacuum hose with a tear that was flapping open, and the actuator arm was cleaned, and cost less than Smythe’s wrong diagnosis. The mechanic’s analogy was “replacing the turbo as the first repair is like going to the doctor for a broken finger and he wants to amputate your arm.” More

We felt ripped off when charged $250 for an adapter for our just purchased electric car that was never mentioned was needed. We had said we would be using a Tesla charging station near our home and the sal our just purchased electric car that was never mentioned was needed. We had said we would be using a Tesla charging station near our home and the salesman never mentioned you needed an additional adapter for that and an account with Tesla. As, Jay was leading us out through service, he introduced us to Regina who said of course we needed adapter..” everything is Tesla”. I thought they were giving the charging device for free and couldn’t believe they were charging us $250, literally going out the door! When I emailed the salesman (who begged us for a “10” review), my dissatisfaction he emailed what I consider a snarky email back , took no responsibility for his direct miscommunication . The Smythe philosophy “ of treating every person as a member of our family “, was not our experience. I do want to say however, that Jay was outstanding and spent a great deal of time explaining the car to us . More
