I stopped by McGrath City Mazda today telling myself, “Relax, you’re just here to test-drive a CX-90.”
Fast-forward one hour: I’m happily signing paperwork and wondering how this amazing SUV became mine so fast. 😆
A huge shoutout to Layla Hill — she’s the real deal! Super professional, incredibly knowledgeable, and explains everything in a way that actually makes sense. She knows every detail about Mazda: the smooth inline-6 engine, the beautiful interior design, the safety features, the tech — you name it, she can break it down for you. Talking to her feels like getting VIP service from someone who truly loves helping people find the right car.
And the CX-90? Honestly, Mazda knocked it out of the park. It’s powerful, quiet, stylish, and surprisingly fun for a big family SUV. The interior feels premium, the handling is classic Mazda-smooth, and it just fits Chicago life perfectly.
The manager and the whole team at McGrath City Mazda were also fantastic — welcoming, efficient, and just genuinely good people. The whole experience felt easy and enjoyable from start to finish.
Plus… let’s be honest. In Chicago’s winter — where the cold likes to remind you who’s boss — a dependable gas-powered Mazda with AWD is still the way to go. Warm, stable, confident on the road. Exactly what I need.
If you’re looking for a Mazda in Chicago, definitely stop by McGrath City Mazda and ask for Layla. I went in “just browsing,” and drove out grinning. Highly recommend!
After a few days and 200 miles on my new Mazda CX-90, I have to say: this car is perfect for highway driving. The engine has plenty of power — honestly, it doesn’t feel any weaker than my old V6 GLE350. The big bonus? The CX-90 runs on regular 87 gas, while my GLE350 needed premium. My wallet is already smiling. 😆
The interior isn’t as spacious as the exterior might suggest. I think that’s because of the longitudinal inline-6 engine and Mazda’s amazing attention to weight distribution — 50:50 front-to-rear and 50:50 left-to-right. Seriously, they’ve engineered this thing like a precision sports car in SUV clothing.
Comfort-wise, it’s not bad at all — but if I compare it to the GLE350, it’s slightly firmer. However, that firmer suspension translates to better handling and cornering confidence, which I love. I feel more in control and planted on the road than I ever did in my Mercedes.
Big xxxxxxto Mazda engineers for making such a well-balanced, fun-to-drive SUV at this price point. My only wish for future CX90 updates: keep the amazing handling but give a tiny nudge toward a little more comfort.
Still excited to put it through a winter snow test — can’t wait to see how this AWD monster handles Chicago’s worst!
