I understand the nature of the work that your team performs, and I recognize that vehicles with higher mileage can experience additional mechanical issues. However, I do have concerns regarding the explanation that these problems are simply expected because the vehicle has reached 150,000 miles.
From my understanding, replacing the intake manifold requires disconnecting and reconnecting components of the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. Because the intake manifold is directly connected to the EVAP system, it is highly possible that something may have occurred during the repair that affected the charcoal canister system.
Specifically, the technician would have needed to disconnect and reconnect the EVAP lines and the purge valve/solenoid, which connects the rear charcoal canister to the front intake manifold. If an EVAP line was cracked, not properly reconnected, or if the purge valve was damaged or left malfunctioning during the repair, it could create issues within the EVAP system. Likewise, if the charcoal canister became saturated or was compromised, it could flood the system with fuel vapors, resulting in an improper air-fuel mixture.
Those types of issues can directly contribute to symptoms such as engine stalling, an auto start-stop malfunction, illumination of the check engine light, and other drivability concerns. Given that these problems began following the intake manifold replacement, I believe it is reasonable to this occurred while at your shop.
I would appreciate a thorough inspection of the EVAP system, including the purge valve, EVAP lines, electrical connections, and charcoal canister, to determine whether any of these components were affected during the intake manifold replacement.
