On January 23, 2023 I brought my 2013 Chevy Tahoe for the 135k and 150k required maintenance to Davidson Cheverolet in Canton, CT. Current milage was 144k. The total cost for what they recommended, including a new battery I requested, was $3,428.95. Labor alone was $1,846.95 (55%). When creating the invoice Davidson always states "customer requests" which is extremely misleading because they call you and TELL YOU what is needed. One thing I was told was required was REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING LINES FOR $991.68.
On March 9, 2023, I contacted Davidson again because my car was now running sluggish and my making a whoosing sound up front. My car at that time had 144,582 miles, 582 miles more since at th 1/25/2023 service. Davidson performed a number of services and also suggested the possibility of REPLACING THE ENGINE. They also asked if I were interested in keeping my car; the inference being they wanted to sell me a new one. No, I was not interested in purchasing a new car. The repairs were completed on March 20th. Total cost: $2,532.11 of which $1,512.50 was labor (60%). Upon picking up my car, the man at the desk told me that the power steering would eventually need work and potentially need to be replaced. This was the first time a replacement was mentioned.
In April we traveled out of state. During that time the vehicle was reving up quite a bit while driving. When we arrived back in CT I researched power steering and power steering fluid. I checked my car's levels and discovered there was NO POWER STEERING FLUID. I purchased power steering fluid and put it in vehicle. I checked the levels daily and eventually it leaked out.
At this point I could not in good conscience bring it back to Davidson whom I no longer trusted to do quality work, nor make required repairs without causing more problems. Instead I brought it to a local mechanic shop on june 16, 2023, explained that it was leaking steering fluid, and asked them to check the whole car. After inspection they informed me that "It appears your power steering lines were recently replaced but stated that the HOSE SEALS WERE NOT REPLACED which should have been done when the lines were replaced in January."
Ultimately, it is clear to me that not only did Davidson Cheverolet NOT service my vehicle, they ignored important parts of the required repairs so I would continue bringing the car back for unneccesary services that would result in more money for them at my expense. In total I paid Davidson just under $6,000 for new power steering lines and nothing else. Their neglect, intentional or otherwise, could have resulted in much bigger problems/tragedies while traveling 1,600 miles on the highway out of state.
I totally regret bringing my car to Davidson Cheverolet instead of having it serviced by an independent mechanic shop. Unless you have an unlimited source of money and do not mind being taken advantage of, even at the risk of your safety, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TRUSTING YOUR VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED AT DAVIDSON CHEVERLET IN CANTON, CT.
