Date of dispute = Nov 3, 2023. We took my vehicle to Girard Toyota in New London for a routine oil change. The service department also performed a multipoint inspection. The service department advised me that the front brakes were in the yellow zone. This would indicate the brake pads were measured by the technician at 5 mm. This was odd to me and I questioned the customer service representative on my way out. It caused concern because the front and rear brakes and rotors were replaced 3,000 miles prior at another (reputable) shop. Without being sure if Girard was pulling a scam or if the other shop was, we took it back to the shop who performed the brakes. The vehicle was put on the lift, front tires were removed, and they visually had us inspect and photograph the brakes on their premises - the brake pads are essentially brand new, 10-12 mm thickness. This resulted in a call back to Girard service department. Prior to telling them we had just been to the service station that had performed the brake and rotor replacement, we were passed on to a manager who confirmed that a technician did indeed measure the brake pads and performed this multi-point inspection and indicated the front brake pads were 5 mm and the rear pads were 7 mm. This was not the first time Girard botched our multi point inspection. In fact, with our other vehicle, they failed to check and adjust tire pressure even though it was on the outgoing report. We did confirm that if a service is listed on the outgoing report, that indicates it was definitely performed. The manager was apologetic and indicated there would be follow up with the technician and then again with us - we never heard back. They lie to unsuspecting customers. Based on these interactions, we believe Girard service department is running a dishonest operation and trying to scam those who do not know better. I submitted a complaint on BBB website and the business response: We have met with our staff and have implemented additional quality control procedures to ensure information is accurately being recorded and communicated. Girard Toyota apologizes for any inconvenience.

Purchased a new Tundra - Negotiating the trade in was insulting. They never even looked at our vehicle and then offered us $5000 less than the value on KBB & NADA. We negotiated and got within $1000 of what we wanted. When we were finished the sales manager actually asked my husband if he could BORROW me for his next negotiation. Like I am property to loan out. Unbelievable in this day and age! 2 weeks later went to a car wash and noticed a piece of molding on the bumper was loose, so we brought it back to have it properly attached before we washed the truck. They told us we must have hit something with it because the whole underside of the front end was crushed. No visible damage on the bumper except the loose molding, but we hit something? We explained that we hit nothing and they said a shopping cart could have hit us and came up with a couple scenarios where we were hit, none of which made sense. Body shop estimated $3700 for the repairs. Tried to work it out with the sales manager and he wouldn't even give us a discount seeing as the damage was there when we bought it. Went to a 2nd shop and they estimated $2700. Filed an insurance claim and the insurance adjuster said the damage was most likely from the Tundra being unloaded from the shipping truck. Dealers are responsible for inspecting all cars and obviously this one didn't. Repair costs were over $1000 less than they would have been at Charles Toyota. They were going to charge us to recalibrate all the front end electronics which weren't needed. They also don't give you a 2nd set of keys anymore. Toyota is low on the batteries, so they tell you you'll get it within 30 days of purchasing the vehicle. The 30 days grows to 60, then 90 and then you have to fight with Toyota to get a 2nd set of keys. I'm still fighting and it's been 5 months. I have it written into the contract and they are still resisting. Do yourself a favor and find another dealership.

I had an issue with a 2022 4Runner with 31K Miles that I just purchased ( Still under Warranty) Brought it to Dowling and had it looked at. My previous vehicle was a 2007 Rav4 AWD. The Rav4 is Automatic AWD, or you can press a button to engage it from a stop, the 4Runner is quite different with a sequence that you must go through (some what confusing) to engage 4Lo/4Hi/2Hi/DAC/ATRAC. To make a long story short I was trying out the different systems and I got stuck in 4Lo and I could not get it out? Drove it in Reverse, than Forward (In 2Hi) but it would not disengage? So I called Dowling's Service Department while in the car for help and I get this guy Pat to ask for some guidance, and what do I get? A really nasty person talking down to me, telling me that I'm looking for trouble and that he was not going to help me!!! All I have to say is, this guy needs a Vacation! Completely disrespectful, Arrogant, full of himself (He said I have 37 Years of experience) BIG DEAL DUMMY! When you talk down to people, and not offer help you should be FIRED! Last time I'll go to this dealership! YOU SUCK! This is directed at Pat! Matt, and Chris where very good!
