Elgin VW is a new stand-alone VW dealership which is very conveniently located a quarter mile north of I-90 off Randall Road on Auto Mall Drive. I had visited there in early 2017 for an oil and filter change as well as to check out the dealership. During that visit, I first met Steven Eckhardt, who is the Assistant Service Manager. When the servicing was done, Steve reviewed the work he’d done and indicated that the inspection didn’t reveal any problems.
While the service work was being done, I walked into the very large showroom to look around at new Volkswagens. It was there that I met Jeff Gossage who is a well informed and no pressure sales professional; no pressure is my favorite kind.
By then, I was clearly impressed with Elgin VW. I also knew that a stand-alone dealership would be totally focused on VW with both service and sales.
For 16 December 2017, I’d made an appointment with Jeff to talk about a new 2017 VW Golf Alltrack SEL. Prior to that, my situation was one that I perceived to be difficult because I had a lease on one VW that had several months remaining on it and I wanted to lease a new VW. It not only could be done, it was seamlessly done. The best part was that I got the exact 2017 VW Golf Alltrack SEL with the exact options I wanted. December 23 was the closing on my car. The Finance Manager, John Dubois, made the closing process easy and I was out of his office in less than twenty minutes! So, thank you Jeff Gossage.

The experience I had was awesome!! I had called Green Toyota a head if time to let them know that I was coming and what I was looking for. Which was a Toyota Highlander! When I arrived they had it pulled up and ready to look at and test drive (if I wanted to). Before the test drive, Angel went through EVERYTHING the Highlander had to offer, which is a lot of awesome features!! When I asked if I could look at different colors, we walked right over to a couple more and I ended up test driving the one I love and brought home!! When it came time for the paper work I left with no questions! Jamie Jones went over the papers and answered all my questions I had. I didn't feel that I had to take any of the additional warranties they were offering. I never felt rushed or pressured to buy anything and they did everything to give me the best deal!! Came in for oil change and inspection, also font wheel squeaking. Oil change and inspection done in an hour and just dirt caught in break pads and cleaned it, pads still good.

At first the buying experience was somewhat great. After realizing tax, title, license not included in payment we were offered a check to pay for these items. Since then the drive off plate has expired (33) days now and still no check. So the car sits, a payment had already been made. The extra key has not been received as well.! It’s like they get your money and then don’t work hard enough to keep your business. I do not recommend this dealership to anyone. Bad customer service

Horrible place to go for a vehicle. This is my first time writing a review but I don’t want people going through what I did. Have been having problems with my car since I got it 8 months ago.The people that work here DON’T care about you. They always have new people working which is a red flag. They Always have an attitude.Had a flat tire and had to call five times and no one ever called me back. Left voicemails and kept getting the run around asking about my warranty.Started calling them when they opened at 9am and they ignored me and no one called me the entire day. I will drive to Peoria for any future work. I have been told from other car care centers that they hear these reviews about this establishment all the time. They don’t care about their customers it’s disgusting.

Were from Indiana, but we bought from Larry roesch because we heard about how easy they are to deal with... we took the train up from Indiana, spent a morning downtown, took L out to the airport, and they picked us up and had our car all ready to go! Mariana had all our paperwork ready and there was no pushback on "add ons"... super easy, and nice folks to deal with.

Very bad customer experience in service department - Filip
My wife went 10/19/18 there for service recall on our Passat 2014. Later that day they called me and told me that they did inspection and that I need to change tires, wiperblades, brake fluid, cabin filter, oil change and that they need to do alignment and fuel induction cleaning. I asked them three times what would be the total amount for all that. They told me “we are looking around $900.”
When I went to pick up the car they charged me $1992.14!!!
2000K!!!!!!! On car that worth is 7000$!

Brake fluid change 182.89$!!!!!

When I asked guy in service “explain to me why am I paying $1900 instead of $900?”
he left me to wait more than 30 minutes and then send me to speak with service manager Denis Healy who said that they told me on the phone not $900 but $1900 and they don’t have that recorded!!! They charged me labor 1005,98$!!!!!!!

We paid for a vehicle at VW Auffenberg in cash and we've been waiting for the title for almost 3 months. The customer service is very poor and they don't return phone calls. We've left messages, email, and they are not responsive. Do yourself a favor and take your money somewhere else. We've filed a complaint with the Better Busines Bureau and the Attorney General since they are not willing to release the title under my name.

Brought my Beetle in for service at 32,000 miles and expected to have a $300 service charge for different maintenance my manual stated I should get. My bill was under $150 and I was told that my vehicle was in great condition. Glenn was extremely helpful and made me feel comfortable.

They convinced me to buy full bumper to bumper insurance for my new car plus tire and rim insurance, yet whenever there is an issue with the vehicle, I have to pay crazy amounts to fix it. They will scam you out of your money in a heartbeat.

I had posted a 5-star review, but had to reverse course. Our salesman insisted they had to put on a rust inhibitor and implied it was complimentary. During the signing, the costs were covered. Was I a schmuck for not asking more questions. Absolutely.
But don't ignore the bad reviews like I did. Stay away. When we came back to pick the car up and realized the charge, Mo, the Nissan Sales Manager, went over charges with me. Very helpful in that moment. He said he'd check with the boss to see what he could do and promised to call back within 2 days. I didn't hear from him, so I called and left messages on both his cell and office line and sent 2 emails over the next 5 days. Nothing. Mo ghosted me (really unprofessional). Finally I explained this to a receptionist and was transferred to a different sales manager. He at least explained things and told me there was nothing they could do.
I'm a schmuck. Don't be one. Read the bad reviews. The only reason they have such a high rating is because while you're negotiating and waiting, they ask you for a 5-star review. Builds up the numbers. I will never be back.
Also, the advertised price includes rebates. Over the phone I was told that wasn't the case. Not clear until the end. If you do insist on going there, ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS. These are really shady & tricky people.
