My Review of Dana Automotive:
I brought my TDI in for its 20,000 mile service in late June 2004. I had a 5:00PM appointment, and the sevice department closed at 7:00PM that day. The 20K maintanence items are clearly spelled out in the Owner's Manual.

At 6:50PM, the sevice advisor appeared before me to let me know my car was ready. I felt that 1.75 hours was a bit much for the amount of work, but I made no comment. I walked over to my car, and popped the hood to check my oil level. To my disbelief, the fuel filter had not been changed. With the hood open, I brought my Owner's Manual to the service desk and told a sevice advisor that the fuel filter had been neglected. The employee told me that only TDI's have their fuel filters replaced at 20K miles, and I motioned to the TDI badge on my trunk. I then spoke with the service manager, and he attempted to explain that "things change" from year to year among all the different VW models. He gave me a "free" fuel filter and without putting anything in writing promised to install the fuel filter when I brought my car in for its next oil change.

I had expected and did receive this type of mis-treatment when I purchased the car new at Dana VW. I thought the straightforward oil/filters/tire rotation type service would go off without incident. Dana could not even handle routine maintenance, how they diagnose and repair major issues is beyond me.

Avoid Dana VW service unless you enjoy having your intelligence insulted, and you appreciate inclomplete work at $85+/hour. The fuel filter change is a 10 minute operation, and the technician and/or the service manager should have jumped at the chance to make good on Dana's botched service. Dana's "free" filter sits on my workbench as a reminder to never use or recommend Dana VW.

My Review of Dana Automotive:
I would give this dealer a zero if I could. I went in for a normal oil change b/c I was in the area. 3,000 miles later, my check engine light came on. I took the car into my normal (reliable) dealer. They said the oil obviously had not been changed in quite some time (i.e., since the last time I took it to my regular dealer); that it was a quart low (my car NEVER burns oil) and that it was filthy. I saved the oil filter for proof. I called Dana and they denied everything right out of hand without even looking into it (such as checking which tech performed the so-called service and if they had ever had problems with him before). They called me and my regular dealer liars. I left a message for the owner to call me back and he never called. If you are in the Pioneer Valley and looking for a VW or service, go to Dean Hill in Keene, NH or down to Springfield, MA. Stay away from Dana VW!!!

My Review of Dana Automotive:
Unless you enjoy multiple visits for the same problem, being accused of tampering with your brand new vehicle when they can't figure out how to fix it, snotty service people and mechanics who couldn't fix a sandwich, stay far away from this dealer. If you have had the misfortune of having your car fixed by these butchers, make sure you have another mechanic check for broken plastic parts and missing fasteners as soon as possible (I guess if the fastener is a pain to get to they think that putting it back is optional). I'd like to say this place isn't bad to BUY the car, but I hate to reward the same owner who hired the incompetent boobs in the service department.
