My Review of Potamkin Honda:
In June 2006, I went in with my parents to buy my very first car. We'd done a lot of research, had gone in knowing what Potamkin had in stock, and even looked up precise car, model, trim, and color. I knew roughly the price that the car I wanted (06 Civic Ex w/ Navi) was selling for in our area based on stats online. While we had some issues with the sales person (nagging, unwillingness to listen, unwilling to negotiate), we all figured he was just trying to push us to make a higher sale. We finally got him down to the price we wanted (still above average sale price in our area but not by too much). We had told our salesman, Marcos, that we really wanted a navigation system because while I know New York inside and out, I would be shipping the car to Hawaii within 30 days because that's where my new job would be. Hawaii new car prices are notoriously high, or so I thought, and I really wanted to have the car first in my own city so I could get used to it. Plus, having my parents with my to buy the car instead of doing it on my own out of state made me feel much more comfortable about such a large purchase. If he''d forgotten that the car would be used entirely in Hawaii, he would have been reminded when our final paperwork process was delayed by over an hour because I needed both New York insurance cards to register in New York but that I only had Hawaii. Then the cards came back wrong because they all had my new address, etc etc. Basically, by the end of the day, we had so many problems with paperwork and so many people were helping me fix the discrepancies that the whole dealership knew that my car was going to Hawaii. Now here's the kicker - I had done all of my research but I never even considered the possibility that the navigation system wouldn't work in Hawaii. It works in Canada in Mexico - how can it not work on American states? The fine print as it is now on the website is that some satellite related features may not work in Hawaii and Alaska to include but not limited to daylight savings time and automatic clock adjustment. There isn't however, a clear indication that the nav system in its entirety doesn't work in Hawaii. I didn't know about all this, however, until after I'd shipped the car and realized I should have printed directions from the car shipping center to my house in Hawaii because my nav system wasn't working. I called Honda dealers in Hawaii thinking I just needed another disc. I've also called Honda Corporation. Pretty much everyone I've talked to has said that the NY dealer should have informed me immediately of the limitations of the system, but especially since they knew I would be using the car exclusively in Hawaii. I've tried contacting Potamkin multiple times - via email and phone - and I've never ever gotten a response from them. I love my car but I paid over 2000 for a system that's completely useless and I can't even recoup that cost if I try to sell it in Hawaii. Potamkin has seriously tarnished my overall satisfaction with Honda vehicles because of their neglect. And their failure to follow-up with my case has shown me once again how little they really care about customer satisfaction.
