I have so much to say about my experience at Bettenhausen, but let me start by saying that this was a very emotional and stressful decision for me. I have a two year old, work full time and while I am not struggling there isn't a lot of extra room in my bank account for major car repairs and no extra room in my psyche for any stress associated with an unreliable car. Last year (March 2014) I was bamboozled into a really bad deal that I regretted the minute I signed on the dotted line and drove my 2003 Nissan Murano off the lot. I have been trying to get out of this deal for awhile now and Bettenhausen helped me do just that. I was repeated contacted by someone named PJ McCain on their internet sales team after making an inquiry online to sell my car. PJ started contacting me in July and didn't stop until I finally got myself down there. He wasn't annoying either, he was actually very patient and accommodating (something that is rare in car sales). I missed or cancelled about 6 different appointments and he never seemed frustrated with me. When I finally got down there I was immediately paired up with Micah Neely. He was nothing short of amazing!! He was super friendly and treated me like I was his long time friend from the moment we met. He was informative, didn't make me feel stupid. He answered all my questions and he didn't try to trick me into anything that wasn't right for me. Sometimes when I would inquire about a certain car, he would be honest with me about whether or not it was right for me. While he was a bit more enthusiastic about getting me into a much better (but more expensive) car at first, once my whole situation was laid out on the table he didn't mark me with a big red 'X" and send me out the door unwilling to help me any further! LOL! Yes, that's how bad my situation was. I owed much more than the car was worth and didn't have the BEST credit (go figure). He could've treated me like i had the plague or put me in something that wouldn't have been the best fit but he didn't! He, along with Lisa Castillo and Andy Haustein, worked for about 2 weeks to get me into something that was almost close to perfect for me. I walked away with a 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander, that is still under factory warranty!! The team at Bettenhausen that I worked with personally made me feel like I was part of a family now. Micah made many references to buying my next car from him very casually and while I know it was the perfect sales trick, it really worked! I actually felt good, and secure knowing that no matter what, the next time I want to buy a car I can and will come to him!! That's an awesome feeling!!
Now I must address why I didn't give everything the 5 stars I wanted to. The only reason why I didn't give the full 5 stars for customer service and friendliness has NOTHING to do with the 4 people mentioned above. They were all beyond awesome!! Unfortunately, I often felt very uncomfortable with the other sales team members I encountered in the Used Car office. No one (not one of them) was friendly to me, acknowledged me, smiled at me, spoke to me or even looked my way....nothing! I am typically not very concerned nor do I notice stuff like that, but it was so obviously and very discomforting it forced me to notice. I was there twice and both times for a couple of hours. The first time I went I started in the New Car Office and EVERYONE was nice and friendly. I moved over to the Used Car Office and it wasn't the same. But it was late and dark and I was really focused on looking at as many cars as possible. The second time I came it was a bright sunny Saturday afternoon that wasn't busy at all and it was stone cold in there, outside of Andy and Micah. That's very unfortunate. I mean it made me really really uncomfortable....So my only advice is that the used car salesman get some customer sensitivity training (both gender and race specific) similar to that of the New Car Office folks because they are great!!!
I hate to even add that last bit to my review because overall my experience with Micah I will never forget. While I may have just been another sale to him, I didn't feel that way at all. I feel like he personally became invested in my specific and individual situation and fought for the best deal and best car for me. He often made genuine references to my son and what he would like about the car and how he would react. Overall I felt very cared for and not just another sale. Micah, Lisa and Andy gave me an awesome amount on my trade and made the process so painless and seamless. Micah even tried to help calm some of my nervousness and fears once he saw me freaking out at one point (this was so emotional for me), and it felt really genuine. I can't stress enough how much Micah made me feel like he truly cared about me getting a good deal. And for that I will be eternally grateful!!!
