- Kartracer6Not impressed. I have a 2011 Chevy traverse that had a timing belt issue. After doing research I found that the vehicle was famous for timing belt issues and Chevy was well aware of the issue. I already had the issue diagnosed with a local shop but thought since this was a known issue that perhaps if get lucky and have Chevy pay for part or all of the repair. When I called GM they stated they were willing to help me out even though the vehicle was out side of it's warranty but they first wanted to verify with their certified mechanics that this was the actual issue. Seemed fair and understandable so I was directed to the dealership and when I got there I explained the situation and had them verify with GM what was being arranged. After the vehicle was looked at the service department simply explained to me what I already knew, the timing chain was stretched out and needed replaced. I explained this was already known and wanted to know the next step since GM said they would help. At this point the service agent stated I was outside of my warranty window and GM would be unable to help. I explained to him I knew it was out side it's window and was confused at why the insisted on diagnosing it if they already knew they weren't covering it and I was given the answer "we had to make sure that was the problem". This doesn't make a bit of sense when they could have simply said no prior to looking at it. What disgusted me after this was the service department wanted me to pay $150 for looking at it. I became upset and kept explaining that they wanted to look at it and not me and the only answer I got back was there was nothing they could do about it. It's concerning that they are this willing to steal $150 I can't imagine how much they would try to steal had I been buying a car or actually had work done to the car. At the end of the situation my bank reversed the charges and GM had lost my business completely.
